:woohoo: my house was just broken into!
Edited on Mon Mar-20-06 12:17 PM by MadAsHellNewYorker
In broad daylight!

My parents and my sister were going away for a few days, and they get a call from the neighbor saying the alarm was going off. 20 minutes later a detective called saying the hose was almost robbed.

They used a crowbar and broke the back-door off. They didn't get anything but left a few finger prints. There is a CSI team now checking out the house. My parents and my sis are a bit freaked :scared: as am I

great way to start the week off!

6. Oh babe.
That is awful. Good thing the family is ok. IF they did take anything, at least all that stuff could be replaced; the family cannot be.

Yeah, my parents place was broken into before I was born and my mom said she felt very violated and didn't feel comfortable in that place after it happened.

I hope the CSI team can identify who did this.

28. I'm so sorry, my friend. What a violation.
I'm glad nothing was taken, though.

I would suggest doing something symbolic to reclaim your space. Light a candle, speak your intention for Safety and Protection, burn some sage to clear out the bad vibes....

That's what I would do, anyway.

Good luck and all my best to you.

41. When I was a kid, my family walked in on a robber
As we walked through the front door, some punk ass kid was straddling the kitchen window trying to pull himself into our house. The only thing I remember was seeing the startled look on his face and then a sudden blur of my father running toward him and following him out the window (why didn't my dad just go out the back door?)

Dad caught him less than half a block away and Mom called the police. It's creepy to think about it now, but I don't recall feeling scared at the time.

My father was career military and in good shape but the window jump still impresses me.

I forgot to mention before that I'm sorry for your experience. A robber has to be pretty committed to breaking into a house if they're taking a freakin' crowbar to the back door. Most burglers search for unlocked doors instead (that's what 20/20 told me many years ago anyway).

52. In my neighborhood there are
gardeners around every day. Sometimes the guys will sit at the curb when they're finished with a lawn and just watch people coming and going. Last summer two houses on the street were burglarized in broad daylight. I'm convinced it was a couple of these guys - crimes of opportunity. Since then we've installed a burglar alarm and turn it on whenever we leave.

By the way, just curious. Did the police dust for prints? Have you talked with a detective? In our little suburb the attitude of the police is "Oh, well. Too bad. Don't ever expect to see your stuff again and there's nothing we can do."

53. It happened to me about 15 years ago.
There is a 'naked' feeling that results from it.

Odds are they were 22 or younger and just lookin' for stuff.

Generally (unless you are quite wealthy) it is random.

Change the locks, but recognize the randomness of young males bad behavior...... Hopefully they will grow out of it.

62. Someone broke into our house while we were sleeping
Edited on Mon Mar-20-06 11:56 PM by qanda
Luckily my sister was asleep on the couch and heard them breaking through the basement door panels. She quietly got her pepper spray out of her purse and ran over to the guy, who was halfway through the door at this time, and sprayed him while she screamed. The police never found the guy and he never came back to get the tools he dropped on his way out.

On Edit: I'm glad they weren't able to get anything and no one was hurt. It is a pretty nerve wrecking thing to have happen.
