Fight Over Marijuana Candy - Bitter fight over sweet pot treats...
Drug agents fear candies appeal to kids -- medical marijuana users insist they're legal

'hey had colorful labels and names such as Trippy, Stoney Rancher, Toka-Cola, Pot Tart and Budtella.

To federal drug agents, they were dangerous marijuana-laced concoctions that could fall into the hands of children. But to sick patients who rely on cannabis to ease their symptoms, they were just tasty ways to get their medicine -- and legal under California law.'

1. If it's legitimate medicine...
...why the silly names? A lot of freeper types think that "medicinal" marijuana is simply a smoke screen (pun intended) for stoners. Turning medicine into hippie candy doesn't help dispel that notion.

2. you have a point, i've always thought Flintstones chewables to fall...
in the same category; cod liver oil is cod liver oil...the thought of cherry flavored cod liver oil is no 'big plus seller' to me x( and only further dispel the importance of daily vitamin & mineral intake

7. I still take Flintstone vitamins
Chewable tablets seem to be easier on my stomach than the big vitamin adult tablets. Some med marijuana patients do have problems with keeping things down. If they are unable to smoke and need to ingest it, taking it by ingesting a sugary candy probably would be easiest, certainly easier than swallowing a tablet or capsule.

3. Why do we bother to vote if our wishes go unheard!
In 1996, California voters approved Proposition 215, which allows the use of marijuana for medical purposes with a doctor's recommendation. Despite the law, authorities -- from the California Highway Patrol to the Drug Enforcement Administration -- have pounced on local marijuana-growing operations in the Bay Area, including locations in San Francisco and Sonoma County in December.

5. This is as effective as Prohibition was. Tax marijuana! Sell it legally!
Regulate the sale of cannabis exactly as we do with liquor and cigarettes.
Trust me. It would put an end to many problems.

10. But what about all the problems it would create.
Edited on Sat Mar-18-06 02:09 PM by SofaKingLiberal
It would cost the pharmaceutical industry billions, free up law enforcement resources and solve prison overcrowding (What are we going to do with all that space, lock up rapists and murderers for life?). Not to mention making fuel from hemp, the oil industry really won't like that idea.

12. Precisely My Point!
Not to mention the very real fact that we are raising a generation who are trying to out_fox_the_man for a joint.
That makes a whole lot of sense. :sarcasm: Doesn't it.

Don't overlook the fact that when you take pot sales away from the drug dealers ~ it is no longer a bridge_drug. :)

6. While I can understand their concern, some alcohol is tasty too
Wine coolers and fruity soda taste similiar to me. A lot of alcoholic mixes sold in stores also are tasty as is. A child ignorant of alcohol could end up consuming a lot of it based on wanting to drink a tasty drink.
If these are meant for med marijuana users and are clearly marked as to what they are and what a normal dose or smoked equivalent is, these maunfactureres should not be targeted. I would hope that thses are distributed through med marijuana coops and not other stores. I would hope that patients would take care in keeping these away from children just like they would other medicine.
