From the WTF File: Ice Cube remakes Welcome Back Kotter.
http://www.eonline.com/News/Items/0,1,18561,00.html

Ice Cube has signed on to play the title role in a film adaptation of
the classic 1970s TV series Welcome Back, Kotter, it was announced
Tuesday.

"There was no bigger fan of the original show than me, and I'm very
excited to be able to put a new twist on it," the Barbershop star tells
Variety.

Cube will play the titular Gabe Kotter, a slacker turned teacher who
returns to his inner-city alma mater and who sees himself in the new
batch of underprivileged troublemakers. He works to inspire the
seemingly apathetic students, known as the Sweathogs.

"We were skeptical about selling Kotter because making a great movie
from a TV show can be challenging," Kaplan said in a statement. "After
meeting with the Weinsteins ,
we knew they were the right ones to bring this project to the screen."

The Hot Chick's Tom Brady has signed on to write and direct Kotter.

1. What's the matter with Kotter?
I like 70s sitcoms.

4. I like 70s sitcoms too, but need we taint them with useless remakes?
Don't get me wrong. I like 70s sitcoms (though not Kotter), but why the remakes? Why not make original stories that may be inspired by the shows, but not copies.

What's next? The Jeffersons: The Motion Picture? Facts of Life: The Undiscovered Country?

Or worse yet, a bastardization of All in the Family or Maude ??? :scared:

They've already ruined the 60s with a crappy Bewitched movie. Will they go back and remake I love Lucy?

6. Actually, I've wanted them to make this one.
I have this idea that Adam Horowitz (King Adrock from the Beastie Boys) would make a good Horshack.

7. I heard they were currently ruining the 80s with a Miami Vice flick
A show that was great for about 2 seasons, then quickly started to suck.

2. If anyone can make it enjoyable, Cube can
though the director sucks. But Cube is a really good writer.

5. Cube is a good actor, but why Kotter?

This stinks of Cedric the Entertainers "Honeymooner" ripoff.

3. He did a great job with "Friday"
Im interested in what he might come up with here. Not enough to see it in a theater, but definitely a dvd rental.

9. There goes your "street cred", Ice Cube!
It's a long fall from the top of the gansta rap heap to the remake of a 70's sit-com. Hope you don't hit the ground with a "thud."
Guess I'm down for whatever...

10. Okay, I recommend Halle Berry as Mrs. Kotter.
Vinnie Barbarino - Ben Affleck
Epstein - Nicholas Turturro
Horshack - David Schwimmer
Boom Boom Washington - Dave Chappelle

Okay, I realize that all of my picks are too old to play high school students. I think they'd be good anyway.
