Opera marathon 'coup' for Cardiff

The Wales Millennium Centre is claiming a coup in staging the UK's only performance of the 19-hour Ring Cycle.

Cardiff will host the former Kirov Opera Company's production of Wagner's epic over four nights in December.

Tickets for the four operas will range from £80 for limited standing positions to £750 'superseats' which include a champagne reception and VIP party.

-----------------------------

Anybody interested in a D.U. meet-up in Cardiff in December.....I'm definitely rather tempted.

1. Ooooh...nice! I did the Ring Cycle a couple times at the Met
and I did it standing.

2. It must be quite impressive in one go.
Or over a short period of time.

I've stood for Parsifal and a Handel opera before - I think that I'd rather sit down though...lazy sod that I am.

3. I did them all as successive Saturdays
I would love to experience the ring cycle in a four night blowout - I think that would have to very cool.

I would like for an opera house to even do it in a day once, start in the morning and play straight through (with intermissions, of course).

4. That's being done on the radio.
It's a recording from some time ago - but B.B.C. Radio 3 is going to play the whole cycle on Easter Monday.

It would definitely be a mind-blowing experience to see that live (and for the singers too I would imagine).

5. Sign me up for one of them SRO positions.
I always wanted to stand up for 19 hours of caterwauling.
