Let's play...What's Your Gimp?
Mine:
Bad knee
Tore knee in half while dancing (creating some awesome choreography, great inventive move that changed my life)
Had surgery, have lovely 8 inch scar, about 25% of my patella left, nerve damage and will never be able to sit "Indian Style" again.

La-di-dah-di-dee La-di-dah-di-die
...and the beat goes on...

So....what's YOUR gimp?

35. I have had it done twice
I was 29 the first time. I had a degenerative condition in the one hip. I had to have the joint "revised" when I broke the plastic cup after slipping and falling on an icy sidewalk. I also had to have a steel plate installed into my pelvis because that side of my pelvis was all but shattered.

18. Had a headbanger student
He didn't mean to use his head to hit mine. He was only six and a Down Syndrome kid about 3 feet tall. He was also what we called a "runner". He would start to take off to run out of the classroom and to grab him you had to bend down. Then, he would throw his head back and bop you in the forehead with the back of his head. Didn't hurt him. Put me in the hospital the third time it happened.

A trait of Down Syndrome is a thicker skull.

19. Just the usual minor BS
Mostly from playing sports.
Broken little finger that didn't heal right and won't straighten.
Broken second toes that won't curl.
Broken ankle that rolls all too easily these days.
Broken wrist that makes a popping noise when I rotate it.
Two knees that are going to need cartilage work some day.

24. But they're all minor stuff
No major bones and no torn knee ligaments.

HS football and basketball but never got seriously hurt.
It was adult rec league that did me in.

Broken finger and toe = volleyball of all things
Broken ankle = basketball
The knees are just worn out from thirty years of skiing
Broken wrist was actually an automobile accident

26. Never minor
when it changes doing even the simplest of life tasks

I have a weak ankle thanks to all the en pointe work I used to do in ballet.

But have never had a moment of regret and would punish my body all over again just for the joy of doing the dance

30. I get to have myself wired up!
Literally, some type of E*G for my arm, a pinched nerve, in about a week I'm going to have somewhere around a dozen wires and electrodes connected to various nerves from my left shoulder to my hand to figure out where the "short" is I guess. In between the time I get to have excrusiating pain when my anti-inflammatory drugs wear off, every FUCKING DAY! But I'm not bitter, honest.

33. No, a generic anti-inflammatory drug...
Was on Celebrex for awhile, but now its Piroxicam, which is MUCH cheaper, 5 bucks a bottle, taken once a day. If I took Vicodin I would be unconscious for a few days, anytime I take drugs from that family I pass out for a few days, don't ask me why. By the way, the test I get to take is similar to a EKG hence why I put a * in the middle. I forget the damned letter at the moment, but its like EMG or something. Its just to figure out where the nerve is pinched, and is cheaper than an MRI, so the docs will know where to cut into my shoulder. I heard that shoulder surgeries are "tight" I guess is the word, everything being so close together that exploratory surgery would cause a LOT of damage. Docs really want the MRI, but I don't have insurance for this thing, so I'm up shit's creek, so to speak. I've had this for a little less than a year now, and to be honest, its freakin annoying and scary, my doctor told me that if I don't get it fixed I may lose the use of my arm entirely, I would prefer to have it cut off if that happened.

39. Thanks...
I swing from optimistic to crying myself to sleep. I mean, right now the pain is manageable, at least to an extent, from the drug I take, so I can use the arm, to a certain extent, for right now. Its just weird knowing that someday it might just not respond to my commands anymore, and the worst part is that even with all this, I CAN'T FORGET ABOUT IT. I'm reminded, for every waking moment, from the tingling in my hand to the feeling in my shoulder that varies from feeling like someone punched me there to having an ice pick jammed in it, that I may end up with a paralyzed left arm. And the worst part is that I'm left handed! Talk about irony! I'll keep you guys posted, I just seem like such a freakin' whiner about it. I mean, it seemed like more of an inconvience I would be stuck with, till I found out the nerve may die, then I really freaked. Now, every time I wake up, the first thing I do is make a fist, if I can at least do that with my left hand, then I know it still works, that's the extent of my optimism. Ahh shit, I'm actually crying, and I hate self pity. :(

44. my right ankle
I jumped into a pool straightlegged, misjudged the depth, and landed hard on my right foot. This was the week before I went to band camp, and I marched the whole week with an ankle brace. I'm pretty sure I cracked my ankle, cause it still flares up every once in a while when i land on it wrong
