Some wild weather in Central CA today ---------> PIX **Funnels!**
Edited on Tue Mar-14-06 08:49 PM by Whoa_Nelly
My son thought he spotted a funnel cloud earlier today. So, since he was near my house, he came and got me, and we did a little storm chasing.

It does look like some funnels!

15. They tend to move from SW to NE
Those look like funnels to me!

That big cloud the funnels came out of is known as a wall cloud.

Your sky did not turn green did it?

3. Hmmm...
those appear to be pre-funnel clouds. Or, as we used to call them back in Nebraska...fingers. As in "Hey Mom! We see finger-clouds, should we come inside?" If that's what they are, that's where funnel clouds come from. However, I wouldn't actually call that a funnel cloud. ;)

Glad it didn't get any worse!

4. Reminds me of my days in tornado alley.
Then again, I'm still IN tornado alley (Jarrell, TX isn't far from here). In fact, we had a tornado drill today at work.

5. Looks like a lowering...
Edited on Tue Mar-14-06 09:17 PM by texas1928
Would need to see rotation in it though... But still pics don't provide that. It could be a wall cloud. Or it could be rain cooled air dropping to the ground. But it is associated with severe weather that is for sure.

8. There definitely was rotation
I grew up in Oklahoma City....have seen lots of wall clouds, etc. My first thought today was that it was a wall cloud.

11. I know why they are happening now
I have a friend who attracts funnel clouds/tornados. She went to the cow palace last yr for the flower show and there was a tornado. She went to MN for a flower show and there was a tornado. Boy am I going to razz her next wk when she returns from the cow palace again! Cool pictures. I used to like watching them dip up and down, up and down, when I was living in tornado country.

12. Where was that?
As others have said, those are the precursors to funnels. As there is more development in the San Joaquin Valley, I expect there to be more tornado reports. Today in El Dorado County we got the most intense hail I have ever seen in my entire life.

Cool pictures!

13. These were in Kings County
About 40 miles south of Fresno.

Weirdest weather around here lately!

How big was the hail in El Dorado County? We had some on Friday...large pea size.

You can see it bouncing off my patio umbrella:

16. It wasn't the size...
It was the amount. It looked like a freakin' snow blower for about five minutes and then "Bing!" clear as a bell!
