And the bad news continues...
My dad just called and told me that my grandma died. I don't even have words for how much she meant to me. She taught me what it meant to be a liberal. She was a Roosevelt Democrat. A fierce feminist. A beautiful human being. The world is a darker place without her in it.

What's really interesting is that while she was dying 1500 miles away (and completely without my knowledge), I was on lunch break at work, reading "No Ordinary Time," the book about FDR and Eleanor. I happened to be in one of the parts that talked about how Eleanor spent so much of her time working on the New Deal...spending time with "real" people. And I was thinking to myself, no wonder my grandma loved her so much. They had a lot in common.

I'm absolutely heartbroken.

8. That is a deep connection
clearly your grandma's spirit has touched you deeply - and lives on to touch others accordingly. That is very cool in the long run.

Very sorry for your loss - hope that your warm memories can help bring comfort.

I would bet, that her knowledge of you - and what you have taken from her (in terms of who you are today) brought her great comfort.

9. It sucks to lose our grandmothers. They are wise women....
and they make such huge impacts on our lives. My heart goes out to you, grandchild of your grandmother.

I lost my grandmother last year at this time...on the 28th of this month. I don't think any other death of anyone I've known had such a tremendous impact on me.

Take your time to heal.

10. Allow me to offer my condolences. Grannies are hard to lose.
Take some comfort, if you can, in the fact that she lived long enough for you to know her.

My younger son has never met, and will never meet any of his grandparents; they were all gone by the time me was born.

Remember her. That's what you can give her.

12. Thank you all
for your kind words. I'm just really stunned and suddenly very homesick.

Those of you who said that she lives on in me, I appreciate that more than you know. I hope that's true. I hope I can do her memory justice. She was one of the most kind-hearted, open-minded, caring people I've ever met. I know she passed on her politics to me. I'm not so sure about the rest of it.
