(BTW, he dislikes the term cartoonist)His books were available through scholastic/send away book clubs that existed I was in public primary school. I doubt they would never let politically charged books like his be sold through a public school program. I found this image of his online. He lives in Australia, now. Incidently, he wrote the original story that E.T. is based on.
