I just had the best Saturday afternoon.

It's a gorgeous day in Chicago. I just dropped my husband off at the airport for a business trip. Don't get me wrong, I love my husband, but never get time to myself anymore (I can't imagine what it will be like when we have a child!) so this is a treat for me.

I walked down to the square near my house, which was bustling with people enjoying the lovely weather. After picking up a few cards at my favorite little funky card shop, I popped into a little gourmet store/school to get a little treat for myself to have for dinner. A few minutes later a very nice saleswoman came up to me and said "We just finished giving a class in making fancy cakes and there is a ton of cake leftover. Would you like a slice? There's fresh coffee too!" How often do you get treated to a delicious slice of freshly made cake just for walking into a place?

Oh and it was delicious too. Coconut cake with lemon filling. YUM!

One of those days where the little things just make you happy.

Mine was pretty good, too. Went on a Saturday trip to see my grandfather. I didn't get much sleep Friday night, as I stayed up watching Last Call with Carson Daly. He had both Zooey Deschanel and Samaire Armstrong on. I have a big celeb crush on Zooey Deschanel, and also developed a big one on Samaire Armstrong. They both have unique personalities, and I often like unique. But amazingly, I felt awake the next morning and my grandfather is doing well. We took him to Eat 'n Park, where I love their Superburgers.

I swear it has been soooooooooooo long since I've really stopped to enjoy those little pleasures. The state of the world and everything going in our poor country on has tied me up in a big ball of frustration, worry and rage. So this time has been really good for me.
