No- seriously. What's the BEST movie ever?
And no bullshit. Not your favorite. Objectively, in your mind- the BEST movie ever made. :)

Ooooops. Wrong thread.

But seriously, Lawrence of Arabia. Winner of seven Academy Awards including Best Picture.

General Murray: "I can't make out whether you're a bloody madman or just half-witted."
T.E. Lawrence: "I have the same problem, sir."

12. Stanley Kubrick had a number of amazing movies.
His last, Eyes Wide Shut, I actually liked a lot, even though most people hated it.

And not just for the boobs. I thought it had a great message. And there was a lot of plot trickery that I thought was pretty clever.

Seriously,I was just a kid when I saw it-with my mom but the message of freedom over chains resonated. It's very sad though-realistic. It's high up there. I could never pick just one-but it would probably be the one I would pick since you made me. Hah.

I bring you your cars.

Sure, we don't get much rain around here.

What do you want for ?
Metalflake?

Listen, you don't like these cars...
here's my inventory.

- That's a picture of cars.

I am mostly a documentary junkie... but I would say that, to date, the best movie I have ever seen is Crash.

I'm sure something even better will come along to usurp the title though...

I also think Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is incredible.

Honestly. Script, cast, directing, timing, music -- it had everything. It was just a fantastic movie.

Or The Silence of the Lambs -- ditto above.

31. The Seventh Seal
No, not that crappy flick with Demi Moore. I'm talking about Ingemar Bergman's magnum opus with this friendly guy in it:

Its a beautiful little haiku of life, death, and humankind's search for meaning. And like Casablanca, it's one of those pictures where everything comes together perfectly, even the mistakes. If it's not the finest film ever made, I've yet to see the one that exceeds it.

As a perverse measure of how good the film is, watch it and then think about how many really bad films refer to it--Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey, for example.

Will you marry me? Or, if we are not of compatible sexual leanings, will you recommend a picture for me?

Because if you're not, then we can't really do anything. ;)

I forgot to add "Network" to that list, which you should check out if you haven't already. Is there any genre you're a fan of? I could recommend something for you based on that.

42. Dr. Zhivago or Body Heat
The Dr. because it's simply a beautiful movie with spectacular scenes and fabulous acting.

Body Heat because it's one of the very few seamless movies with ZERO wasted time or images. Plus it's just a badass film from the get go.

I also tip a hat to the Seventh Seal (or "Seals") that Bergman did. Holy crap what a fabulous movie.
