There is absolutely nothing extreme about Christianity
Except that some pracitioners are extremists

Dobson's rat bastard son wrote a book to appeal to "da utes" with the premise that Christianity is soooo extreme, being yet another loser to capitalize on the dead horse of extremes.

Ladies and gentlemen, there is nothing extreme about Christianity. Christianity is the dominant religion of the USA, and going out to "witness to non-beleivers" is not only futile in a Christian Country, where you could never be elected president or to congress unless you are a Christian - but it's also plain annoying.

What's next, Extreme Wet Willies? Because that's what evangelizing is like. A big wet willie.

1. Honestly, I know this is the Lounge, but...
Virtually all religions, imo, are extreme. They ask you to believe in things blindly, to base your entire life on events that may or may not have happened thousands of years ago, to forsake your own common sense, usually to submit to a patriarchal hierarchy without question...

(Meanwhile, they completely ignore the fact that humans were brought to this planet by the same aliens who built the pyramids. Duh.)

19. My first thought, exactly.
Most religions are comprised of some "extreme" beliefs and/or practices when viewed from a non-religious or contradictory perspective.

I, in fact, was conceived in a cloud by fairy dander, by two pixies and a wild boar.

5. I've never watched Stargate SG-1...
By that logic though, X should be one of the most successful bands of all time.

9. It's a great show, and I am a helpless addict--
I have all of the seasons which have been released on DVD and the original movie. The downside is, I don't have cable, so I can't watch the current season...

Anyway, there are a couple of episodes (maybe season six, I'd have to check) where the team meets this alien who has been living on earth and has had his mind altered so he doesn't really know he's an alien (obviously, he is a humanoid alien) and long story short he loses his memory but creates a television series called "Wormhold X-treme!" that is basically a truly crappy version of Stargate--it's pretty amusing.

Plus, the actor who plays the alien is Stanford Blatch from Sex and the City (my other favorite tv show).

11. Evangelizing is obnoxious
but evangelists are like the Borg, and non-believers (to them) are to be assimilated--or else. Resistance is Futile, you will be assimilated.

12. Christianity is extreme.
A guy decides to stand up to the Roman Empire with a nonviolent revolt. He says bat**** crazy things about how people ought to live their lives. He gets himself killed.

His followers set up an entirely different power structure in the movement that follows. At its root is the idea that God became manifest in man not in an emporer, but in some peasant way off to the corner of the empire.

In a shed. With animals.

It ain't mainstream.

15. Ahhh but that's REAL Christianity
The real spirit of Jesus was extreme - but that is a far cry from the Christianity I was referring to, that of the evangelical variety.
