7. She is a Cheerleader what do you expect
Ever watch those cheering competitions on ESPN2? Those girls have to be on speed. Their eyes are popping out and I have never seen smiles that big. It's actually very freaky to watch.

12. I think she was trying to reassure people.
Sure it looked dumb, but she had a bad injury. Perhaps she deserves some leeway for looking silly. Even if she was aware of what she was doing (which I don't know), she probably just wanted to let people know that she was going to be okay. It was pretty thoughtful to put herself into a silly position, rather than have everyone panic that a girl just dropped down dead.

16. 'Everytime we hear that fight song
and they play it over and over at all the games, our coach has us dance because it keeps the crowd going," she said.

Uh... no?

One thing I've never heard is someone saying they cheer because cheerleaders tell them to.

And anyway, why is this a story other than in a couple of Illinois papers?

I've never liked cheerleaders and this just further cements my dislike for any and all cheerleaders...Saw the interview on CNN a day or two ago. I could not stop laughing....

23. You'd think the medics would have told her to knock it off
I thought one of the first things they do with a neck/back injury is to completely immobilize the patient. I would be worried about her causing more damage to herself if she was moving around like that.

I thought it was a bit odd, but what can you do.

27. The fight song is pretty much conditioned response in a cheerleader.
Edited on Thu Mar-09-06 09:28 PM by Nailzberg
Fight song motions are the first thing every cheerleader learns. And anytime the band strikes it up, you do it.

I saw her interview on the Today Show, and it was pretty poor. But this is an 18-year old girl with zero media training.

GO SOUTHERN GO!

30. i agree
I guess you guys don't watch much sports. whenever someone gets hurt, they always give a wave to the crowd as a signal that they're OK. I second realisticphish, why the vileness?
