6. Yes. .....and No -uh oh I have an apology to issue
Yes it is Cub Koda but I was referring to the guitar solo in "Rock n Roll Hoochie Coo" which I could have sworn was by Brownsville Station.

I am very sorry it was not by Brownsville Station. I am terribly sorry.

8. Rick Derringer, man.

Cub's a legend around these parts. Responsible for some good riffs, indeed.

But R&RHK is still the ultimate muscle van anthem.

9. Two Versions
Johnny Winter and Rick. Rick's version is far superior, and he wrote it.

24. Oh Yeah!
I have the prerelease version of the album. Yep, i've been in contact with Satch that long that i get pre-release opportunities. I don't get them free, of course. I ain't in that close contact. But, i get them early. The new stuff is really influenced by psychedelia, even though it still has the jazz and fusion influences we're used to.

25. In my college band (late 80s) we always played Satch Boogie
followed by "Zap" by Eric Johnson. We were a pretty bad-ass trio!

26. Well, That's Very Cool!
Satch Boogie is one of the few Satch tunes i know note for note. It's not my style to learn things to that level of detail, normally. But, that one i did because i just felt there was so much to learn in terms of phrasing and detail. Love that tune.

7. Best Guitar Solo ever was done by Jimmy Page
and surely that is not a picture of him.

But here is a picture you can use as you correct your trivia question

Oh the song would be "Whole Lotta Love"

15. Eeeeeeeeeeeeep!
That's not even HIS best solo, Lynne! The melody within the solo on Stairway is a better one, for instance. And, it builds nicely throughout so it travels through changes. And, there are plenty of others better than WLL! You need to get a guitar and learn some of them! LOL! You'll see!

THat was the first that came off the top of my head although after I hit send I was thinking of about 3 other great solos (none of which were Stairway)

18. I Always Favor That One. . .
. . .because of the flow. The feeling, the pace, and tone all intensify from start to finish, while still maintaining a sense of melody that isn't the same as the song but fits so well.

I always like those "mini-opus" type solos.

And it doesn't look like that guy could play "Deer Dancing Around a Broken Mirror" if you gave him two extra strings and three extra fingers.

20. K.K. Downing and Glen Tipton...very underrated
listen to them trade off leads in "bloodstone" or "the rage"....awsome......i was just listening to tool's "lateralus" a moment ago...adam jones is not to shabby on the solos either...they fit well with the mood of the songs tool does.

Boy, do they ever have a ton of highlights.

Let us Prey (Sin After Sin)
Dissident Agressor (Sin After Sin)
Stained Clas (Title Track)
Solar Angels (Point of Entry)
Rock Hard, Ride Free (Defenders of the Faith)
Eat Me Alive (Defenders of the Faith)
Victim of Changes (Sad WIngs of Destiny--which by the way is the coolest album cover of all time--Also check out the live version of victim on the new "Rising in the East" DVD it is jaw-droppingly dramatic!)
Painkiller (title track)
And you just have to mention Hellrider off the Angel of Retribution CD and Risin in the East DVD--whoa, that's macho!)

And these are just the overlooked ones!

Edited on Thu Mar-09-06 10:51 AM by rppper
simple but fitting...thats what makes them great...their timing and feel. they are subtle when they need to be....i have to admit though, "turbo" was the last studio album i bought from them....i own "metalworks" and "unleashed in the east" currently. i must have seen priest 10 or 11 times in the 80's...they are at their best when live....

you left out "fever" and "riding on the wind"....."rapid fire" is fun to play on bass too ;-p
