Those damn Amish!
http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/06068/667396.stm

<snip>
Does making a horse wear a diaper constitute an infringement upon its owner's religious freedom?

Perhaps wary of a fight over civil rights as they pertain to the regulation of horse excrement, local officials in Ebensburg, Cambria County, dropped consideration of an ordinance requiring operators of horse-drawn carriages to affix "containment devices" to the business ends of horses as they clip-clop through the newly beautified downtown streets.

Ebensburg, population 3,100, has a small community of Amish that drive their buggies into town from small farms. Active participants in the farmers market and other businesses, they usually keep to residential side streets, said Ebensburg Mayor Charles Moyer. Occasionally, their horses dump a load of manure directly in front of someone's house.

I went to high school in this little town.

1. The Amish think thats against their religion?
Seriously, has the big G commanded them that their horses shalt crap in the road?
And I did not know that they had fought and won the right not to have reflectors on their buggies.

*sigh*

Seriously, the Amish are nice people, but sometimes public safety and sanitation have to win out. What if my religion required that I defecate on the infidels lawn? Would religious freedom allow me to do that? You can't just do anything in the name of religious freedom.

Interesting story though.

2. Charleston made international papers
When they started requiring horse diapers.

If we've got to have pollution, I'd rather have the type that I could scoop up and put on my bushes for better flowers next spring.
