Food or drinks you hated as a kid, that you now love...
...for me, pizza. I couldn't stand the smell of it, maybe it was the parmesan cheese, but it smelled terrible to me when I was a kid. Now I love it, alhough now I will only go near parmesan cheese if it's freshly grated.

1. Broccoli, spinach, asparagus
The man reason I did not like them as a kid is that everything was boiled to death. Steaming or sauteing them makes them MUCH better, and SO yummy!

5. AMEN!

I came from a place where the only fresh vegetables were things like green beans, tomatoes, corn, cucumbers, and squash. I didn't realize that spinach came in any other form besides the cooked, oily, just-out-of-a-can version we got at lunch in school. And I never saw even a cooked asparagus until I was in college.

I'm convinced that the reason I don't like fish is a similar principle: I lived in a land-locked state where even "fresh" fish was a couple days old.

18. Tomatoes...I hated them for some psychological reason.
As for pizza, my grandfather hated pizza his whole life, until he turned 75. Then he became a pizza eating machine for the last five years of his life. But, til the day he died, he carried the pizza home in his trunk, and then let it (the trunk) "air out" for about an hour. ;) The quirky things we do.

19. Liver, Okra, Yellow Squash, Asparagus..
The liver was overcooked. And it didn't get any better as it sat on my plate, getting cold. Eventually, Mom gave up. I still don't cook it--but will gladly eat if someone else does.

The vegetables were also overcooked. Fried Okra was my first hint that the slimy monster could be tamed.

Things I liked from the beginning: Mexican food, Chinese food, Shrimp, Smoked Oysters, Raw Oysters. We made fun of the smelly parmesan that came in the box with the Chef Boy-Ar-Dee spaghetti--but ate it anyway!
