"Awwwwwwww" time: new puppy photos!
This is Brody, who came to live with us last evening. It's a tale with a sad start, but a happy ending. While Tony was on patrol last night, he got a call of a dog struck by a car just west of town, so he went to the scene; when he got there, he found a recently-nursing adult female who had, sadly, already passed, but... he thought he saw some reflections in the ditch by the side of the road, and went to look. In his flashlight's beam were two puppies--- one male, and one female. He coaxed them both to come to him, picked them up and put them in his patrol car.

He then went to the station and took the pups inside to warm up and give them some water. One of his fellow officers came in about then and they both played with the pups a bit, until the pups fell asleep. He and the corporal were talking about taking them to the pound until the corporal mentioned that he had promised his boys a dog for Christmas. The wheels began to turn...

Bottom line, the corporal took the female (better house pet, he said) and Tony brought home the male, who we named Brody a bit ago. As a reward for your patience, heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeere's BRODY! :)

10. Well, I think he is going to be more than 50-60 pounds
My Rottie weighs 99 pounds. And shepherds are not small dogs either.

8. A Sweetie! May your next 15 years be enriched. . .
I am "petless" for the first time since this summer, and jobless for the first time since 1967. I miss the pets more, frankly. Take good care of that Horrible Monster (that was often what I called my dogs; it changed; each had their own monikers - Pooperidge Farms, Kreetur, Bunny Rabbit, the last a pit bull/lab mix, but true to her personality). OK, strange, but I loved them, and they loved me, and we cared deeply for each other. Congrats, and stay true.

26. You're breaking my heart. Really.
My beloved dogs are gone; my cat died in September; my Mom (most important) died then, too; I am jobless for the past two years (once was a "big shot" lawyer - hah); daughter is 27 and 2500 miles away and won't see her for the holidays; basically alone for the first time in my life. I miss my pets; have never recovered from 2-year-old Sasha being run over in 2001, after being beaten and tortured as a pup (I rescued her, then let her down 18 months later, by not keeping her on a leash). She looked like Sampson. I miss her. Merry Christmas.

25. He's a charmer, too!
When Tony brought him in, he put him on the floor so Grover could 'inspect' him, and he immediately rolled over, belly up; Grover sniffed, etc., and then Brody got up and kissed his face all over.

Grover thinks he's OK, since he let him eat out of his bowl both last night and again this morning, and even shared his 'fish' toy (see photo) with Brody. :)

30. Shepherd crosses are the best dogs in the world
and I say that as a person who dearly loves several of the super-giant breeds - the best family dogs I've known have nearly all been shepherd crosses, loyal unto death.

31. The vet says...
... that shepherd mixes are usually very intelligent and very good-natured dogs; I was a bit worried, with him being part Rotty, but the vet said not to worry, he'd be fine. He said that Rotties and pit bulls both are usuallu MADE mean by their owners, but aren't that way when raised by non-psychopath--- then they are just *dogs*. :)
