Worst remake, not counting failed Bush administrations
I'm not sure I have a horse in this race, actually. All I can think of is the one that never happened, the Bennifer (old original Bennifer) remake of "Casablanca"; kind of overwhelms all other possibilities. Unless... if "Moulin Rouge" is considered a remake, it runs away with the category. What are thoughts?

1. Gus Van Sant's "Psycho"
Edited on Tue Mar-07-06 09:20 AM by terrya
Which was a pointless waste of time, because...I saw the original!!

All the remake had to offer was the fact that it was in color (which basically ruined it in the first place) and a different cast. Much as I secretly liked seeing Anne Heche (well, her character) getting stabbed in that shower, the whole thing was pointless.

This sorry remake even had the exact same Bernard Herrmann score.

12. Ditto--and I love Vince Vaughn. But he didn't "get" Norman Bates,
and neither did van Sant.

2. Miracle on 34th Street - remade in 1994
This movie is a classic from the 40's and should NOT have been remade. Some movies should just be left alone because you can't improve on perfection. Hollywood should come up with new ideas.

War of the Worlds with Tom 'nut case' Cruise added nothing to the original. It was terrible. And if Hollywood ever remakes my fav scifi movie from the 50's - The Day the Earth Stood Still - I will be one pissed off mouse!!

3. How about movies with the same name? The original Bad Boys
with Sean Penn was MUCH better than that Michael Bay Bad Boys cops in Miami shit.

6. I've only heard but haven't seen "The Longest Yard" with Adam Sandler
Wasn't it on DVD in like...two weeks? I probably won't ever watch it, seems like sacrilege to me as I loved the first with Burt Reynolds. They better not touch the original "M.A.S.H." either.

7. The Haunting...
brilliant thriller the first go round, mae into a terrifyingly bad remake featuring Liam Neeson that should be banished from film history.
