The Oscars are about movies and not politics
Remember that the Oscars are about movies and the storytelling whether it's about an issue going on today or just a makebelieve film or the retelling of a story. So all you people with your panties in a wad up your ass about BBM just remember that. It's about storytelling. The REAL place where an issue wins is the election box and the leaders we choose.

1. I like the story told in "Fahrenheit 9/11".
It was so good it won an Oscar.

11. F-911 got 'shut out' because Moore didn't submit it for best documentary
Having won best documentary he decided to see if he could get best picture for his movie.

14. No nominations because he put it on DVD before the Oscars.
He did this so more people would see it before the 2004 Elections.

2. Speaking of make-believe and storytelling:
"The REAL place where an issue wins is the election box and the leaders we choose."

"We choose"?

How charming ... a true believer.

10. The point is that we fight for these issues, not over a movie

and whether it comes in first, second, third, with Oscar voters. I can't believe the rudeness this whole thing is inspiring on DU. :eyes:

9. And about mediocre movies, at that...
...is the movie that wins the "Best Picture" Oscar really the "best" film of the year? Not usually.

12. The Oscars are about members of a club voting for their favorites
For the life of me, I cannot understand why people think that the Oscars are about we, the people.

We don't criticize the Garden club members when they vote for the best garden of the year, and feel that WE have the right to question their judgment, do we??? HOW could they have chosen Mrs. Kerfiddlefaddle's ROSE garden, when clearly Mr. Loopapa's wildflower and ivy display was SO MUCH BETTER?? Clearly, they DISCRIMINATED against those who prefer wildflowers!! Time to take to the streets in PROTEST!!!!!!!!

The members of the Academy are the voters--not US. Ya wanna make your case??? That's what the People's Choice awards are for.

The academy members are a professional group, voting for the people that THEY feel did the best job.

It ain't ABOUT us!!! We just sit back and enjoy the spectacle--it is a window into their little club, and we have nothing to do with it beyond making snarky comments about how they run their event. And those who don't enjoy it can stretch out their arm, and grab the damn remote. It's not like the days when we didn't have options--three channels, and if ya lived in the boonies, ya might be able to get two of them on a clear night!!!

I get a kick out of the Oscars; half the time I haven't seen all the films, but I enjoy the nonsense, the live TV aspect, the horrible speeches, the entire pageantry of the thing. Plus, it is a great excuse for a no-stress annual party with like-minded friends in the dead of winter.
