1. That's what everyone said about Jon
And Dave Letterman.

Someone is always overhyping, and others are always over-glooming. Fact is, sometimes material hits and sometimes it doesn't. Colbert might be awesome. Then again, he might suck, too!

6. Why was Crystal always good then?
They don't want a host, or an emcee, or a comedian...And by 'they' i mean the people who sit int he audience. The 'academy'. If they don't laugh, the host looks lame and bad, no matter what they do....they laugh at Billy Crystal though....why?

Probably because he's one of them. He's been in a bunch of films, and even acted with DiNiro! So he's one of them. The on top of that he never really seemed to push their buttons. He didn't really make fun of them, or the movies, but made fun of himself by putting himself into those movies...taking shots at the vulnerable instead of the powerfull.

Jon Stewart on the other hand, as he even put it, was the fourth male lead in deathy to smoochy, and doesn't hesitate to point out the hypocracy of Hollywood. Same with Letterman. Colbert would be in the same club. He's not part of their club, so he's dead in the water.

2. The funny thing about Colbert hosting...
is that lots of conservatives wouldn't even realize he is mocking them. They'd think he's on their side...

3. They could put that on Pay-Per-View and I'd pay for it
:D

I also think Steve Carell would be a great host!

4. Jon was great.. Letterman was pretty good too.
IMO Colbert isn't as natural on stage as Jon and Dave were, even though he's just as funny. Probably not a good fit for the Oscars.

Slightly off topic.. Anyone else think Sarah Silverman kicked ass on the Independent Spirit Awards? I really like her offbeat humor.

8. That's what would be so great...
Colbert would just dead pan and make horrible horrible jokes (at which he would probably be the only one laughing), while making snide comments about 'liberal hollywood' oh man that would be classic. He would do great as basically the extreme version of what most of the hollywood phonies would want.

The main thing that would be so great is his "GraviTAS" speaking style. And he would be great at mocking every cheesey thing that the oscars have ever done. I remember, before the Colbert Repohr, that he did some 'magazine' style' news program which was basically a compilation of DS reports - but he did it in the 'Stone Phillips' style, where he would be casually walking through a dark room full of TVs and scanning lights, etc. It was brilliant.
