Fashion thread for the Oscars.
I'm a Project Runway fanatic and a fan of Jon Stewarts so I tuned into the Oscars last night for the first time in fifteen years. I have to say, I was favorably impressed. Lots of style. It looks like Hollywood grew up -- again. New style in an old-fashioned way.

Does anybody have a link to a webpage that shows all the actresses coifed so we can decide who was the best?

Just some that I remember: Uma Thurmond, Jennifer Lopez, Alba, the one wearing the mustard dresss...

3. The first link was great!
I felt sorry for Helena Carter. I don't think the Good Morning crew understood her ensemble. They were not very kind about it. She wore a short blue gown with white shoes and they criticized her for wearing white shoes, though they're in, and then they made some off the cuff remark about her purse. But if you look closely at the purse, you'd notice it was red. Red white and blue. Get it?

I don't know how they missed it.

4. Gawd I love Project Runway and noticed I was sooo more attuned
to the fashions last night as a result! I only had one question: where's Andre?

7. Someone must have given him an Auf Wiedersehen
Or he was in the back room trying to make it work.

15. Looking for his chiffon?
Wow, I should have known other DUers would be fans of PR! I stumbled upon it and drool over the designer's pattern making skills.

18. I'm worried about Daniel.
Just looking at the rack of clothes for the presentations for next week's show, it looks like Santino has a complimentary group of clothing. I've no doubt that the girl's designs (Cloe?) will look the best on the models, but Daniel's selections seem like they may have gone over the edge.

21. I haven't been to the Lounge in ages! :-)
I sneaked a peek at Fashion Week's online photos and I'm worried about Daniel's collection too. The jacket detail was beautiful but that brown dress... well I don't want to spoil it for you. Cloe has the pink puffy thing and Santino's collection was a surprise.

The next time I'm in NYC, we'll be going to Mood. I can spend hours in a good fabric shop, it's amazing the designers have only 30 minutes.

5. I really liked that vintage gown that
Reese Witherspoon had on. It was simple and the cut was good.

That girl with the mustard colored gown was lost in her dress. It wore her. And who coiffed her? Or did she just wake up from a nap and throw her gown on with some red lipstick? Several women had that hair style? thing going.

8. Reese and her dress bonded well.
Hate to tell you but the mustard colored gown received high marks. The color changed, however, depending on who photographed her. Did you realize that she had given birth recently?

10. The dress itself was beatiful, but it did not suit her.
More had to do with her coloring and I think the dress needed to be worn by a very striking woman with a commanding presence. She just didn't wear the dress, it wore her.

16. You just described Nicole Kidman in her white dress.
However, I was fine with it. Just as it is nice to see a color that offsets someone's tan, it is also interesting to see white on white. Monochromatic.

9. Was not boring when you realize how hard it is to create one of
these things and make it look good.

13. I ceratinly respect all the beauties and their lovely fashions
but personally I like off-beat creations and off-the-rack do-it-your selfers. But then, they need the classic elegant majority to set off their eccentricity.

Hey, George Clooney was wearing the same tux he's worn many times- i believe someone said that the top and bottom didn't match... but he looked finger-lickin' good!

14. There are so many other events for that Jay and Santino look.
There's the Grammies, the CLEOs, the People's Choice Awards, just to name a few. The Oscars should be about refinement.

11. When I first saw that swan dress, I rolled my eyes. But the next
time I saw that thing, it occurred to me the subtle commentary it was making. Swan song, ugly duckling to beautiful swan, Leda and the Zeus-swan kissed by a god. Yeah, it was a statement about women in the arts and the nature of the arts themselves--divinely mad.

22. I always loved that dress. Damn the critics... I thought it epitomized
everything about Bjork. She's a unique and incredible talent and her swan bespoke that exact sentiment.

And I actually DO have really, really good fashion sense...

17. Loved Ludacris' black on black on black!
I think he said it was Dolce & Gabbana... Someone needs to tell the women in strapless gowns it looks very sloppy when they have to hitch up the top (on camera!) with both hands every time they stand up or move.

19. Ludacris looked hawt
The solid-black ensemble was a knockout, especially paired with the subdued bling in his ears.

It's already been said a billion times, but... Charlize? What happened??

20. i thought a lot of the women looked great.
but i gotta tell ya -- men are looking LOST.

it's really past time something big happens in mens formal wear.

casual wear has come light years -- but mens formal wear?

you had guys whos stylists didn't know what to put together.

i know mens wear is really about tailoring -- but we could use a little haute revitalising.

25. Identical Uniforms?
Looks like there were one or two out of uniform.
How dare they wear a tie in other than black.
Otherwise, black pants, black jacket, white shirt black tie. All the variety of a military review.
