1. well, it had just won best original screenplay as well
so not entirely out of left field.

I figured Brokeback would win, but I thought Crash had the best opportunity for an upset (based only on the chatter--i haven't seen it, myself)

3. I have seen both films
Brokeback, IMHO, was far better.

7. i thought brokeback was amazing
i'm looking forward to seeing crash, though.

the thing that surprised me as far as brokeback goes was heath ledger not winning. i love hoffman, but i grew up in wyoming, and watching ledger's ennis was like chatting with old classmates. his creation and command of that character were incredible, imo.

9. Philip Seymore Hoffman became Truman Capote
who was a known quantity...That is perhaps the only reason he won it over Heath Ledger.

4. Make sure you see it
It's an amazing film that really makes you think about how our country is when it comes to dealing with different cultures and pre-conceived notions that we have about them.

I was just as shocked as everyone else but the movie deserves the awards. I was guessing when they gave best director to Ang Lee that was their way of splitting the bounty. Had Paul Haggis won best director then brokeback would have won best picture

8. I liked Crash
But I also like looking at Thandie Newton. Though I chose Brokeback Mountain.
