3. If they like them
Billy Crystal (that I personally didn't like that much) hosted many times, as did many others. Whoopie did a few.

Letterman just was out of his element and didn't get asked back, iirc.

FYI, if you vote, you should post, if only a :kick: , as the act of voting in and of itself doesn't kick the thread.

But yeah, if they like you, you can keep going for many shows.

2. no, he will get the same response Letterman and Chris Rock got
that's what i'm guessing.

personally i never thought Letterman and Rock were bad as some claimed. i liked how they brought something different into the show.

how'd he screw up, or was he just too much for that group?

16. i'm not sure if he screwed up
but i think here were similar moments to some that Stewart got where they audience just didn't get them or they were too sensitive about the jokes.

but i think he did some things which were different and fun to look at such as going to the magic johnson movie theater and asking people their opinions there. many of them had no idea about the movies nominated for oscars.

7. Dave is so funny in the right circumstances
But he pulled his "Uma... Oprah; Oprah... Uma" thing to introduce the two and it was just so unfunny and the nervous laughter just kind of became a Oscar milepost of what not to do.. it doesn't sound bad in print, but I guess you had to watch it.

If the audience is with Dave, he rocks, but you need a certain mindset, and if you're not there, it just seems lame sometimes. Again, don't get me wrong - I like Dave.

Actually I was worried Jon Stewart would run into the same problem - Jon is great behind his Daily Show desk, but I used to watch his standup when he first appeared and sometimes it was excruciatingly bad. I've been pleasantly surprised tonight. Very pleasantly surprised, and I'd be happy to have him back again.

9. Dave says, "I don't travel well..."
I thought Dave did FINE, but he bombed with the critics. His main bit that night was,

"Uma... meet Oprah... Oprah... meet Uma..."

subtle and I wonder if Oscars will be back next year? The Reich has to be really upset.

On edit: One more thing. Too bad Michael Moore wasn't nominated this year. It would have been the icing on the cake.

32. An observation
Seems there are more and more foreign nominees every year in all the categories, especially the technical categories.

This is very telling to me, also explains why the audience might not have "gotten" Jon's subliminal references to BushCo and the Reich-wing fundies?

Otherwise, the rest of the audience are too busy with their careers and families to watch TDS and read DU :D

12. I think he’s doing a great job, but admit to bias.
His political jokes were subtle. (paraphrase) Pointing his head to the giant Oscar standing over him, he said, do you think if we all run up here and topple this guy, democracy will turn up in Hollywood?

He's brilliant!

The Cheney/Bjork joke was funny, but on the Daily Show he would have followed that with 5 minutes of killer BushCo jokes...Jon, you're not a good schmoozer....

Not his fault, but Oscars are all about the money. Of course if it turns out that he delivered the young audience, he might get another chance, but I would bet against.
