BBC version of Narnia - any good?
Was at my local BJ's wholesale club earlier today & saw a BBC version of the first 3 books of "The Chronicles of Narnia"... just wondering if anybody has seen it. I thought the BBC radio did a terrific job with Lord of the Rings - I have a 12 CD version of their LotR version.

1. Nah, pretty dull
Disney actually did a pretty good job of taking a fairly dry novel and making it fairly entertaining.

2. I didn't see that one, either
and, I only remember liking the books when I was in elementary school - I have not read them since.

3. You might pick them up for a reread
They go very quickly, and it's surprising what aspects of the stories emerge after a long absence. :hi:

4. I should
But, I'm so far behind on my other readings, that I probably won't get to Narnia until around 2009 or so.

I still have to read the last 2 Harry Potter books, the latest from George RR Martin, the Al Franken book (The Truth with jokes) and more.

5. You're the only person on earth
Who hasn't read Order of the Phoenix and Half Blood Prince.

I'm telling you this for your own good.

Now, what are you doing HERE? You should be reading Harry Potter! :P

9. I'm at work
I'm really dying to read A Feast for Crows more than the 2 Harry Potter books.

14. I'll have to give the matter some consideration
You can read it in the original English, but you haven't availed yourself of the opportunity?

:(

They're about the only non-birding books I have in my room.

16. I haven't read them either
I slogged through the first two then gave up about 100 pages into Prizoner of Azcacopacobaba (or whatever it was called) and hurled the book across the living room.

Big McLargehuge and fantasy lit... we don't mix.

7. Yep! Got it on tape.
The FX are a little primitive - the obvious animation jars with live action bits.

It's very slow (something Europeans can handle but many Americans can't).

It's charming and some of the performances are quite good. (Some of us had this discussion a while back and IIRC the general consensus was that we enjoyed it.)

Khash.

8. In response to Euros vs Americans on pacing...
My wife & I went on a tour of China maybe 18 months ago now. It was an American tour, and it was for 7 or 8 nights and 8 days. However, during the tour, the tour guide told us that they give the exact same tour to Europeans, only it is over 11 days. We had early morning calls every day, and every day was full of sightseeing from early morning until later at night... the Europeans would get up later, and leave several hours each day for shopping, personal time, etc.
