My god.

1. So did an acquaintance of mine last week. So did a 80 year old tortise.

2. HT
Mortality hits us all smack in the face from time to time, and it uses different events to do it.

12. Retreading on the concept of 'celebrity worship'
Edited on Sun Mar-05-06 03:45 PM by HypnoToad
I just find it interesting how we humans put some people up on a perch and treat them as gods, while others who are no different have the same (or more) problems and are utterly ignored; left to rot.

It goes back to the other person (in another thread) saying celebrity worship is asinine. It is.

And I'm not yet used to the concept of mortality and prefer to feign innocence... Though I shouldn't...

Please don't think I'm being deliberately spiteful... if I was, my original response would have been quite different...

17. I don't find you spiteful. I find your comments ignorant at best....
Edited on Sun Mar-05-06 05:03 PM by bertha katzenengel
This assumption that "celebrity worship" excludes thought of everyone else on the planet: Ignorant. Do you assume that WYSIWYG with every post? That there is no thought, there are no dimensions beyond words I post on DU?

As with all comments attacking people for hero worship, I wonder: What makes you think that we who comment on the lives of famous people, however frequently or rarely, do NOT consider common people in our daily thoughts?

Sheesh, HT.

Edited to tell HT that this is without malice. Just hope you'll consider it.

9. This is bad.
Despite his off-the-field problems, Kirby is the most beloved player ever to wear a Minnesota uniform.

Prayers and good thoughts go to Kirby and his family.

15. Not Harmon Killerbrew?
As an outsider (Bostonian), I'd put the "Killer" as most beloved. He was there when the Twins were the Washington Senators, and jacked 573 balls out of the park, and despite a lifetime .256 BA is in Cooperstown.
But this is an outsiders viewpoint.

Add on edit: ask an O's fan why people still name their kids after Brooks Robinson.

10. Oh man
That's awful. I always liked Kirby. When his retirement was announced because of his eye condition, I was at a Mariners game. Everyone in the ballpark groaned in sadness.
