Recommendations for adult acne treatment?
I'm having a massive breakout right now, but my skin is normally quite dry.

I periodically (heh, heh) have these types of breakouts, but this one is a doozy!

1. Ya might try this
Olay Facial scrubs. Works for me and I have a particularly nasty form of acne. Cystic acne.. Not disfiguring but it hurts like hell - the only remedy is to literally have it cut out of your face. ICK!

So try the Olay Daily Facial Scrubs.... worked for me.

Khash.

4. I get cystic acne, too.
Tea Tree Oil helps dry 'em up for me.

2. Any of those combination treatments w/Salicylic acid
I do market research, and years ago we worked on the first 3-phase product (cleanser, toner, moisturizer) with salicylic acid. There are a lot of them on the market now, and from what I've read, they're your best bet.

But I always go to an unbiased source for information first

3. salicylic acid......
some kind of product with salicylic acid. And don't dry your clothes in the dryer with fabric softener. ;)

Suffered from adult acne for many years, spend hundreds of dollars on many products. :( Key is exfoliation. :)

5. Do you have health insurance
when I was using birth control pills I had acne. I found out eventually that my regular doctor could help with it and that health insurance covers acne. So you could get a prescription and it would be covered by your medical insurance.

7. How strange,
Usually BC helps with acne.

I've had some problems with acne, mostly during PMS.

Exfoliation is necessary on adult skin. In my 30s I used a cream with AHAs in it. That worked pretty well.

Now that I'm in my 40s I use a microdermabrasion kit 2x/week. I wash my face with glycerine soap for everyday and I use Johnson's baby wash in the shower ( ) I use a :for faces sunscreen even in the winter during the day and a body butter at night.

Oh, and I started taking a separate Vitamin E cap in addition to my daily multi vitamin.

8. I could only take progesteron-only birth control
due to other issues. So it wasn't typical birth control pills that gave me the acne.

10. Birth control did nothing for my acne, one way or the other.

On some pills, the acne would even get a bit worse.
On the bright side, you don't need a specialist for acne, your regular Dr. can give you prescriptions for anti acne medications. Acne is covered by insurance.

6. I finally got fed up
with acne when I was in my late 20s. So I did Accutane. The treatment was godawful, but it worked. I never had a pimple or blemish again. It sounds like your condition is less severe, though, since it is only periodic. A dermatologist could probably suggest something topical.

9. Hormonal Imbalance
I don't know how old you are, but severe acne is not an outside deal that skin products can fix. It's an inside thing. Usually hormones - and can be dealt with herbs/vitamins. If you're interested, send me an e-mail.

11. I've been using this
I'm 40 and I have horrible acne. I've had it all my life. This seems to be working pretty well and it hasn't trashed my face like the other treatments I've tried. It's expensive, but it lasts about two and a half months. And it's cheaper than my dermotolgist is. ;-)

12. Try the Neutrogena with Salilcylic acid made for older skin
I think it has a cute name like anti wrinkle anti blemish. I use that in combo with an oxy scrub as do my adolescent daughters. Works for us. Neutrogena Clear Pore 2% Salicyclic Acid gel will also stop an on coming lesion? cyst? dead in its tracks for me. The pain, swelling and redness goes away overnight.
