What would you make for Brokeback Mountain food for an Oscar Party
Any good ideas? All I have so far is beans out of a can and maybe shepherd's pie.

Other people are assigned to bring food from the other best picture nominees. If I had Good Night and Good Luck I could just bring cigarettes and hard liquour!

I'm an adventurous cook with a good kitchen at my disposal, so anything is fair game.

5. If anything is fair game,
stew a rabbit, pretend that you caught it yourself. A little beef jerky would be an authentic cowboy touch.

9. Lamb. Elk. Trout. Biscuits.
They also ate turkey in the movie.

Ennis wanted soup and spuds, too.

18. Lordy, I *hate* baklava.
Filo dough is one of the most magical substances ever to grace a plate, and making baklava destroys all of the best characteristics of filo.

16. "Bean hole beans"
I saw that the other night on "Ham on the Street" (Food Network). Basically, it's just beans cooked the old fashioned way where you put the beans and seasoning in an old fashioned dutch oven and bury it with hot coals for a few hours.

17. Steaks on the grill, preferably venison or antelope or bison

but even beef will do.

I haven't seen the movie, but I believe they were herding sheep, weren't they? If so, then lamb would be a great choice.

Serve with biscuits or sour bread, beans, rice, bacon, and dried fruit.

Strong coffee, whiskey, and water out of a canteen for drinkin'.
