Where did you come up with the name swimboy? Today I met a member of the 1968 US Olympic swim team

15. Spur of the moment when I finally decided to register and

participate in DU. I swim regularly at the local YMCA and settled on that name. Before I figured out how to post a picture, several people were after me for one. One day I googled swimboy and found out the name is in widespread use on some dating websites with plenty of pictures. Well, I'm not that swimboy!

Where did you meet the Olympian? There was a doctor in town here, now retired who was an Olympic medallist in swimming.

My GF found him on line because I said I wanted to learn how to do the flip turn to help me speed up my laps, so she got me two sessions with him as a present. When you swim, do you take a breath on ever stroke, or do you go swim a few before having to take a breath?

I guess it's every one-and-a-half strokes. It felt awkward when I first tried it but it is second nature now. I still do open turns, however. Do you do flip turns now? I'd like to learn that some time.

is called the Data Lounge, which is populated for the most part by the glbt community, but there's always a bunch of lurkers and freepers, just like on DU. I find a lot of the same stories and articles that get posted on DU get posted on DL because obviously there's a strong interest in progressive, liberal topics, and a healthy hatred of the Bush Admin. What makes it different is there seems to be absolutely no censorship - so a lot of outrageous stuff gets posted, which is sometimes amusing, a lot of it I just ignore because some posts are down right tasteless. Since I'm interested in the entertainment industry and there's a lot of gossip that goes on about that, it's a big draw for me. But I still love DU.

It's kind of near Venice isn't it?

Last time I was in LA was in 99 I think. I dabble in screenwriting so I was out there for some meetings. I took my son with me, he was 9 a the time. We went to Lego Land and on the way back we drove along the coast. I love Santa Monica I think the best.

And I actually live in Manhattan - on the East Coast.
