in that thought--Hollywood ran out of ideas a VERY long time ago, about the same time the first "remake" ever was made. And that was likely sometime in the 40s or 50s.
What they have run out of is producers with a fucking backbone. They tap and re-tap all the old hits because they feel they're assured of at least a minimal audience that had a thing for the original. A remake bomb will still probably yield them more money than an original bomb simply because of that fact. So it's a safer bet for them to do sequels and remakes than it is to be original.
There are millions of great ideas out there. Hollywood just doesn't have the spine to make them, and make them right.
