Tonight, I was called Gas.

At the Pastor-Parish meeting, someone was talking about how she sees church as being something that gets her through the week. She said that she's like a car, and she comes to church once a week to get fuelled up to make it through the week. Then she said that my sermons were the fuel that helped her make it.

Of course, I chuckled and said that my gas was less expensive than the other places in town.

9. OMG, that is so cool!!!!!! I wish I could find a church that.......

.....made me feel like I was filling up my spiritual tank. Most churches these days make you feel like you are setting through a mini political meeting. If you disagree with them then you can't possibly be a "Good Christian" and you are all but banned from the church. At the very least they make you feel VERY unwelcomed. :shrug:

I envy your congregation! My S.O. says I'm a happier person the weeks I go to Meeting, but there's less motivation in the past few years, because our "weightier Friends" who used to deliver wonderful messages are aging now, and they've either died or and are going to the Meetinghouse near their Quaker retirement community.

Few of the younger folks feel called to vocal ministry (and the few who occasionally do anyway, shouldn't). The one "younger" (55) Friend who does have the gift has felt called to run our version of Sunday School instead, depriving the grownups of his wonderful messages (but enriching the Meeting's children). That's the downside of having to rely on a tiny congregation for everything, without the aid of any paid staff.
