Funny thing happened at work yesterday read on
I have been in training for the cafe part of Barnes and Noble
Yesterday, my trainer said it was unacceptable (not allowed) for me to get my own drinks.
I don't mean bottled water, snapple or pepsi I mean even to get a cup, put some ice in it and hit the button that says "water" because he said it makes the cafe look like a "Flo's Diner"
I quit but I also called the Human Resource line to tell the story. Can you believe it?

2. I'm sorry I didn't tell this part about it it's personal
I am bi-polar and manage it well with lithium. However, with Lithium I need water because if I drink too little I get toxic. I was like, this matters to me for my medicine!

10. Well, I'm glad you quit and wish you luck!
You did a good thing by calling HR and reporting it. I hope something good comes out of your complaint!

5. That's asinine
To expect an employee to work all day without even water is BS. I'm glad you reported them.

6. You know, as I got to the second line of your story...
...I was expecting to read that the trainer told you that they have a special employee to fetch your drinks for you!
Glad you quit...the idea of "dignity at work" is becoming more rare in what's left of America.

9. That's a new one on me, KS
Like many people, I've worked in the food industry, and I've never heard of not being able to get your own drinks. What did the boss think you were going to do? Get a drink and then drape yourself over the counter and sip? :eyes:

11. lol no doubt this guy was a power lover the reason he said was...
it just "looked" bad if the customers could see the employees getting their own drinks. I mean then what? Do they have to bring it back to me behind the swinging doors so they don't see them "Giving" it to me? Crimeny it's just water and I hope this guy gets what's coming to him. I wanted to stay at this job but no freakin way would I do it under these conditions (thx for the support btw) (((((hugs)))))

12. There's No Drinking Allowed Where I Work
However, that rule only applies to alcoholic beverages. I feel for you, Kathryn STone.

14. thanks I mean it it's been hard in the Bush economy (break out the violin)
I was a licensed stockbroker (series 7 and 63) 1997-2003 we all know what happened to the stock market, remember all those dot.com companies?
So I saved up and sent myself to paralegal school you know the ones that are trying to hook you in like used car salesmen?
so now I am a "paralegal" there's no degree just a certificate and gosh golly that was 30 August I graduated last year. Been necessary to just get a "job" job in the meantime turns out this way...Now if I was in a sorority in college I could call a sister but I was independent.
LOL "It's hard these days on a pimp!"

15. ohmigod that's exactly what they do! read down below
they get a pitcher. fill it with ice and use the "tap" to fill that-then they leave that over by coffee stirrers and sugar, hoping people won't ask for water. They sell a brand called Fiji in 1/2 and 1 liter bottles, sure they prefer to sell that. However! there is a different spout for "water" to be drank-you've seen it I'm sure where they have the coke, diet coke, lemonade and there's a white lever you pull for water. Well jesus that's what I was trying to use when I got "corrected"-LOL so they're putting that pitcher our there with these itty bitty cups like you get pills in ad the dr's. Hmm Lisa I am going to research a little on BnN now
Thanks (smile)
