1. Nancy Kerrigan got whacked on the knee and they gave her silver too
she married her agent.

8. Oksana was the most creative skater I've ever seen.
Pure artistry. Ya, she self-destructed after the Olympics, but she gave me chills to watch.

Kerrigan's big trick was skating on one leg with the other in the air.:boring: Oh, ya, and her $4000 costume.

Oksana ruled!!

Oksana was dynamic!

22. Besides her destructive descent into fattening food and booze is symbolic
of her society's destruction in the years after her skating performance. She was on the Unified Team IIRC and that was the end of a great chapter in figure skating history: the Soviet skaters.

27. Oksana used her hands and arms beautifully, unlike no other skater,
before or since. I think what sets her apart are her long, slender and extremely expressive arms and hands.

26. No way!
I saw them skate a few months later & I saw why Oksana got the gold & not Nancy. Nancy had no charisma or "spark" with the audience, nor did she seem to want one. The audience stood up & cheered for a very long time for her & all we got was a quick "fuck you" wave & she was gone. Oksana came out to initial hissing (people were still po'd about her beating Nancy), but she very quickly proved to us why she won. She lit up the ice, skated spectacularly, and really appreciated the audience's reaction. When we kept applauding & cheering for her, she came back out & skated the same program AGAIN!

28. Kerrigan seemed to lose all interest in skating after 1994.
Even though she still did pro appearances, her heart just wasn't in her performances.

30. She just got bumped off (with David Coulier) "Skating with the Stars".
It kind of cracks me up because Dave went to school at the same school my daughter just graduated from and was an avid Hockey player. You would think that would have helped them out. :hi:

33. I like Dave a lot as a comedian, but I didn't like his figure skating - it
was more like he was just following Nancy around and watching everything she did, rather than doing anything interesting himself.

5. I think the skaters are worse than ever.
When I think about Peggy Fleming and all the Russian skaters from the 1968 Olympics and then some later on were far superior and professional they were. Sure, we had to suffer through some of that awful music but today's skaters don't seem nearly as good. Lazy mostly. Personally, I think the gals that put on black tights or dark streach pants, etc., and don't show their little cusion when they raise their leg over their head get lower marks.

25. Nothing wrong with a little cushion
It is pretty much the whole point of women's figure skating. As such, Sasha was robbed.

Sasha gives the wrong finger to her critics:

29. The change in scoring systems has over-emphasized the tricks and jumps
and there is little time left for any artistry or choreography. The programs at this Olympics all looked pretty much the same - hardly any difference from one skater to the next.

Edited on Fri Feb-24-06 05:13 PM by LostinVA
Other skaters deserved both. Falls have traditionally never won medals. Period.

7. That is exactly why it is such an outstanding achievement
Shit, the gold medalist didn't even fall and she was "awarded" the gold. Sasha spotted her two falls and damn near beat her. Plus, Sasha knows how to cook, unlike any other figure skaters.

9. What you wrote makes no sense
Sasha fell twice, so didn't skate better than Arakawa. Arakawa skated a clean, pretty program. Sasha shouldn't have medaled, period. She wasn't the second best skater, she was the second best scorer, under a questionable system. Both the silver and bronze medals should have went to different skaters last night.

And, Sasha is a bad sport and a Bushie.

Go Kimmy Meissner! The nice girl overshadowed by the drama.

...than Cohen's.

I do NOT get why Cohen got silver and Slutskaya only bronze.

I'm just saying that in previous Olympics, falls weren't rewarded, but under the new system, they literally are....

23. I'm wit' ya on this one.....
Slutskaya has never been a fave, but I'm sorry she didn't get the gold since, at 27 and with health issues, this was likely her last chance. And she did better than Cohen.

This new scoring system needs some fine-tuning IMO. Everyone's program looks the same, and there are too many required elements. The whole program is taken up with them. And skaters trying jumps they can't complete with the hopes of getting partial credit is asking for injuries.

13. I'm no skating judge, but Sasha was clearly the star
I don't even know the names of any of the other skaters, so they can't be particularly notable. My point is that Sasha fell on her ass twice and still scored the silver. Mighty impressive. How many times did the other skaters fall on their ass? Once? - give me a break.

Sasha enjoys shopping at Dolce & Gabbana in Soho.

And, Sasha has no star quality/charisma... no skater really does right now.

19. I understand Sasha fell on her ass twice and still won the silver
She worked the system as any outstanding athelete would. Pushing the envelope. The other medalists only fell once combined - piss poor.

Sasha's sister (Natasha) is almost as beautiful as Sasha

I think the gold medal winner was boring. She seems to have won only cause she didn't screw-up, and everyone else got the Olympics heebie-jeebies. Too much pressure, I guess.

17. Yes, but you get higher points for a big jump you fail
Than for a smaller jump you're clean on. That makes no sense. Getting a higher score for a FALL? Falls shouldn't win medals.

37. Apparently you are smoking dope
Sasha, the best skater in the world, will only improve with time. And those rednecks from Georgia have only seen ice in their sweet tea. Roller rink training probably won't get you on the podium.

Sasha and her family enjoy a dogpile of good lovin in Hawaii:

Whereas Michelle Kwan will be a name that people will always know who she is and remember.

Hell, Disney just signed her to be their spokesperson and that was AFTER she dropped out of the Olympics
