4. It is really very good
I love Dr. John and Randy Newman. But I am kinda disappointed the Nevilles aren't on this CD. Oh well, that means I will just have to find another benefit CD that features them. :)

10. All we have here anymore is Borders or Best Buy
and one locally owned store. It is so sad that there are so few record stores anymore.

13. I went to the neatest record store in Boston in October
I can't remember the name but it was so awesome. It was downtown. My friend and I were so jealous. We don't have anything like that here in red state hell.

11. I am reading those daily, Hissyspit!
I used to teach the neatest Black History unit. But since we are in this hyper testing mode (thanks to NCLB) we don't have time to teach units like that anymore. Is that sad or what?

I do still take 15 minutes every day and teach some Black History, but it's not in the curriculum and every year I wonder if I will even have 15 minutes a day to do this next year.

We also had the African American Read In last week. I think that is a national event but I am not sure.

Anyway, I love your daily posts. GREAT idea!!

14. Here's another Katrina benefit CD you should all purchase:
<>

http://afterthestorm.nearfestrecords.com/

It features some of the top names in the progressive rock world today, including Echolyn, Spock's Beard, IQ, Happy The Man, Camel, Kansas, California Guitar Trio, Mike Keneally and The Flower Kings. Almost all of it (something like all but one or two tracks of a two-disc set) is previously unreleased.

I saw them open for Yes a few years ago during the "Masterworks" tour.

22. The same guys, minus Kerry Livgren.
Kerry Livgren has a new band, Protokaw, which is also quite good.

Also be sure to look at Dirty Dozen Brass Band's "Funeral for a Friend." It's an amazing album that's patterned after a jazz funeral, but contains many upbeat songs. I highly recommend it.

19. No Louis Armstrong, eh?
Oh well, so much great music has come from there, been written about it. I can hardly complain - there is so much.

NOLA is pretty damn special. Yes I know about the racial problems and the problems with the cops. But it was a place where black people could contribute to our culture. And I hope we can rebuild that. And I want that in my life.

Khash.
