I love Austin!
Not only does Bush get less than 42% of the vote for president in 2004, not only does a Republican with NO Democratic opponent for Congress get only 62% of the vote (24% went Libertarian, 13% went for a write-in Dem candidate whose name wasn't on the ballot)...

Now I find THIS:

Best of all, they make a vegetarian hot dog with chili!

Okay, maybe no one else cares, but I love it!

1. I used to live in Austin. A very nice place.
They're very environmentally sensitive. They do have vegetarian resturants (and just about every other kind of resturant). And they tend to be passionately liberal.

Can't beat the beauty of the countryside, either. Those rolling hills with green trees are pretty spectacular.

2. The rolling hills are spectacular, but they are becoming increasingly
covered in expensive houses... Still nice views, though.

3. Is it true that their unofficial motto is "stay weird?"
I'm from Cali, and don't know these things, but it seems like the *one* place in Texas that I wouldn't mind visiting.

5. "Keep Austin Weird" is the motto. Then there's Eeyore's Birthday
An annual festival in April to celebrate what very well might have been Eeyore's actual birthday.

10. Like everything in Austin, it's a really cool way
to justify music, beer and junk food! The pagan drum circles are awesome, too.

11. Eeyore's birthday party is my favorite Austin event
I remember going to it when I was a kid and now I take my own kid to it...circle of life and all. :)

13. I've only been to a few of them
I don't get out much. But I like knowing it's there.

So much to do in Austin, and I do very little of it!

BTW, I'm moving out of Rock Creek, but only to Grey Moss. I needed a 2 bedroom, and there weren't any available in RC. My RC apartment is perfect--it's got a view of the water tank (the symbol of northwest Austin, IMO) and it's on a quiet little triangle. The Grey Moss apartment is up against the main road, and not as private. It might have a water tower view, though--I haven't been on the balcony yet.

16. When are you moving?
If you need any help, just let me know! BTW, did you ever get my PM about getting the girls together? I was having computer connectivity problems right after sending it and I wasn't sure if it ever got to you.

No 2 bedrooms in RC? That surprises me.

17. March 8
There was one available in RC, but it was second floor, and it was too close to the balcony across from it.

As of now, I'm planning to hire movers. Moving from one third floor to another is not a dream move, even with my meager belongings. I strained a muscle in my arm moving in, and it hurt for two months. Thanks for the offer, though, I might call you yet on it! :-)

I got your PM, I was just very sick at the time from allergies, and not in a social mood. My youngest would love to hook up.

12. Austin if a fine little town.
Great food(try out Jamies sometime) and an excellent selection of tequila(Century Liquor Store). And the population, at least the locals are great people. Trouble is, like with any formerly small college town, it has attracted many many developers that are just throwing down developments where ever, with no regard for neighborhoods or the rest of the population. Thus, Austin is suffering from some serious sprawl, all the way up to Round Rock:wtf: and out south of the river. Hopefully they can get these people under control before that wonderful, unique flavor of Austin is lost forever.

14. Not just tequila, but they make the world's best Vodka here.
http://www.titosvodka.com/

If you've never tried it, try it. The best ever.

As for the sprawl, yes it's getting bad, but what can you do? Build more roads to the suburbs so you can get people out of town quickly. Austin has some of the most environmentally aware people in government of any town, so much is protected.
