How the hell do you dope for SKELETON?
I guess I don't have a whole lot else to say beyond the title of this thread. But the question still stands. How? And WHY? For SKELETON?! For riding a luge car face first down a long slide?!

1. Probably
refers to taking steroids to build muscle for the "push" before going downstairs......

I don't think it actually happened.

2. This goes with that excellent "what are you talking about?" post
from the other day. Once I got to luge, I figured this must be about the Olympics, but otherwise I'm hearing "blah, blah, blah, Ginger." ;)

18. "Blah, blah, blah, blah, Ginger." God, I love that cartoon!
Can't remember...was that a Far Side cartoon, or was it in the New Yorker? I'm thinking New Yorker.

4. I think these tests were for elevated hemoglobin
it happens at altitude, or by synthetic hemoglobin, and it's a 5-day ban for 'the health of the athlete.' That's what they got the x-country skiers for, so it think this was the same. But it is funny thinking lugers are 'pumping up' to slide down a chute!!!

6. He did not dope on purpose
if you are referring to Zach Lund, he is out of competition because he was using a therapeutic hair restoration pill he thought was acceptable.

This is sad story. He was not cheating

7. No, it was Propecia
He took it for his hair loss. Propecia alone is not the problem, nor did they find any drugs in his system. The Propecia has an ingredient which can be used to mask the presence of performance-enhancing drugs. The existence of that substance alone is what did it.

Sad for him.

8. When will athletes learn?
You do not take ANYTHING before a competition, ESPECIALLY vanity drugs like Propecia.

We had an athlete banned for taking a cold medicine that wasn't on the "approved" list.

9. I know.
Not to mention they're tested constantly while they're there!

And, what about Ross "I Didn't Inhale" Rebagliati or Bode "Hangover" Miller? :)

15. They need to take Cannabis off the list of banned substances
First, anyone who says Marijuana is a performance-enhancing substance needs to quit smoking that shit.

And second, I thought snowboarders were required to smoke weed.

And I'm pretty sure there are some other skiers who drink, too.

The only performance I've found marijuana enhances is a Pink Floyd laser show. :)

10. He'd been taking it for six years.......
and up until this year it wasn't a banned substance. He declared it every year and they were fine with it, until now. He should have checked the list of banned substances but after six years......... I imagine you wouldn't even think about it after that length of time.

21. Silly athletes
Just forgot to read the list of banned substances, and accidentally took, of all things, hair growing stuff. Yeah right. My sons are athletes and they don't accidentally take something like Propecia. Cold medicine, it can happen. Propecia?? Don't think so.

12. Technically? Finasteride
Edited on Fri Feb-10-06 07:57 PM by Patsy Stone

<snip>

This month Mr. Lund tested positive for finasteride, which isn't surprising since it works only if taken every day, for eternity.

But at the end of 2004 the World Anti-Doping Agency added finasteride to its list of banned drugs in international sports. The agency calls finasteride a masking agent that hides the use of more nefarious drugs like the steroid nandrolone. So, one imagines, every Olympian with a spasm of hair growth must fear surprise follicle checks.

Better he should have had erectile dysfunction. The trinity of impotence relievers - Viagra, Levitra and Cialis - is not prohibited, though these drugs are performance enhancers in a certain athletic way.

Had Mr. Lund used Rogaine, whose active ingredient is minoxidil, he would have been home free and potentially with just as much new hair, since that anti-baldness drug is permissible in the Olympics.

22. Ya know, sometimes I think we need short term forums.
One for pre-super bowl, super bowl, post super bowl rioting (if there is any), then you shut it down, open one for Olympics, etc.
