DU'ers...a CLEANING question!!
I just recently had pergo installed in my dining room. I had an independent contractor do the work. I never asked him how I am supposed to clean it.

I've googled and only found 17,000 ways to clean it! :eyes:

Anyone with any experience with this?

1. I thought it didn't need polishing. Just dusting with a dust mop.
Although, I'm sure Pergo sells a cleaner.

You have Pergo? I'm jealous. x(

4. I have crappy carpet in the living room and hallway.
I want it out! I'd like to go with Pergo.

I'll leave carpet in the bedrooms. Can't have cold tootsies, ya know. Everywhere else is tile.

How much per sq. ft?

6. It was about 2.13 per square foot installed..
It lasts too, from what I understand. It doesn't scratch, pit easily.

9. Thanks!
It would be a bit over $500 for me. I have some other issues I want to deal with first, but I appreciate the information.

17. you can install it yourself
easy peasy

in july home depot puts it on sale, install it yourself -- the non-glue type pergo, really nothing to it and you will be tickled pink

18. I'm not sure I want to tackle that.
There are some tricky angles along one edge that I'd rather leave to someone who knows what he or she is doing. Plus, having a pro do it would mean less disruption to my life. It would take a day, I'm guessing.

7. I have a Pergo floor.
Are you trying to clean off residue leftover from the instillation or a general cleaning?

10. There is a special cleaner sold by Pergo to remove the residue.
After that ... I've kept a separate mop for my pergo because sometimes just water is enough. My floor gets hit by late afternoon sun that shows streaks if there is anything in the final rinse water. I haven't used anything special on a regular basis over the past 3 years to clean it. I'm happy with the way it looks.

12. Pergo is so great when you have dogs and messy families
I live in PNW and lots of wet, muddy feet come through my house. I did my whole bottom floor in Pergo. I use a Clorax wet jet kind of moppy deal and that works just great for the grime that accumulates with just daily living. When it's not too bad I just use a dust mop.

Pergo doesn't have the richness of real wood but it's a heck of a lot easier to keep up and deal with when you have so many paws trapsing through.

13. I hit ours with a dustmop every day or so,
give it a swipe down with a damp mop with murphy's oil soap once a week or so (more often if the kitties are being especially bulemic) and give it a layer of either wax (LR, BRs) or liquid acrylic (Future) every two months or so. The acrylic really helps in places where water is a problem.

We treat it like hardwood and it looks like it. Our neighbors did theirs at about the same time we did ours, and they go the "easy maintenance" routine, and the contractor's been out twice to fix dings, scratches and swelling. (They have two kids, but we have two cats.)

15. I work for a Pergo dealer
The official way to clean Pergo flooring is "Pergo Simple Solutions Floor Cleaner." Comes in a trigger spray bottle. Not outrageously expensive and as the main ingredients are vinegar and lemon juice, it can't be all that dangerous.

Swiffers work. Damp mopping with Murphy's Oil Soap works. Endust on a dust mop would be okay if you're just dusting the flooring. Anything gentle is fine.

One caveat: do NOT get the floor sopping wet. This product is essentially Formica laminated to high-density fiberboard. Get it wet enough and the backing will absorb water, which ruins the affected planks.

16. oh you're gonna love it, it's really easy
dust mop is fine, you can even just sweep it, if something sticks, you can wipe it with a damp towel but not a wet towel and then dry it off

it really stays clean so much better than carpet, etc. you are going to be delighted

keep your receipt, if your house ever floods, your insurer will replace the pergo instead of cheesy carpet if you can prove you have it

19. Glad you asked this question
The house I'm moving into has a Pergo-type floor in the kitchen and 1/2 bath on the first floor. I was wondering how to clean it.

Thanks!

:hi:
