My dogs eat cat turds from the litter box
Ewwwwwwwww.....

What is the appeal

I have to RUN to scoop them out if my nose detects that Southpaw has laid a fresh pile, lest my wily Shelties, Samson and Sierra, snatch themselves a tasty snack. They're pretty quick though. If I don't make it they'll be munching away, with granules of litter stuck to their noses.

11. Oh they don't get near me after that!
They go right outside. And they know they've messed up when they've done it because they give me that guilty look and slink off, tail between legs. But yet they cannot resist the allure of the cat turds.

I would wish not to be them, if it weren't for the deliciousness of those cat turds.

3. Yuukkkk however
Another reason that animals such as dogs and flies eat poop is that poop contains a certain amount of protein. Dogs are particularly fond of cat poop because cat poop is high in protein. I had a friend with a dog and a cat, and he never had to clean the kitty litter. The dog took care of it.

like nothing was wrong. Some say its a chemnical thing. They do sell a supplement to deal with it but it never worked for us. My suggestion - isolate kitty box - install a micro kitty door if necc. And oh yeah, beat your two dogs senseless :7

19. my flea is sweeter than pie AND has never eaten shit. anyone's.
she has rolled in stinky stuff a couple of times, but that was my fault- I keep her too clean and her instincts tell her to smell bad so other critters don't find her.

she doesn't drool, doesn't spill water when she drinks from her bowl, and only occasionally masturbates in front of company!

by far the least disgusting doggie I have EVER known!

if you like, you can own her vicariously through me. she can be your cyber-dog!

face-licking, the loud barking, the rolling-in-stink and the leg-humping, I'll do just fine with my cat instead, thank you. But dogs are very cute, and very friendly. It's just that I can only take them in small doses!

That comes from the look on the dog's face when you catch him doing that.

They all will, given the opportunity. Then they'll try to lick your face, like that will help you not be mad at them.

23. a suggestion
my parent's old dog would eat her own poops

vet told them to mix canned green beans in with her food - it makes the poops taste real yucky and the dog would stop

might work with cat poops? if you can get the cats to eat it? maybe run it through a blender and mix it in?

the other alternative would be to get a covered litter box or some sort of barrier around the litter box so the dog can't get to it

Its an international way that dogs use to show their natural superiority :sarcasm: over cats.

French Poodle:
"You are zo ztupeed you seely cat- I eevan eat your poo poo!"

Russian wolfhound:
"Dogs are ze true cosmanauts! ... and I eat your turd!!"

Scottish terrier:
"Wee sleekit stupid caty
your turd is slimy
lang an tasty."

Boston terrier:
"Eatin' youah tud is even betah than gettin the newspapah"

Australian Shepheard:
"Krimey, throw another turd on the barby, G'day"

Mexican Chihuaua:
"Yo tango gatto turd ... I can't wait to get to Taco Bell."

Afghan Afghan:
"Osama! We will eat a thousand decadent cat turds!"

Who hail from jolly old England, I believe. So it would go something like this:

Or something like that. I've never been good with accents....;)

I couldn't think of any others offhand. I was trying to think of a Canadian dog.

German Shephard:

"Vo ist die kat gepoopen?"

Pekinese (Chinese):
"Confuscious say: 'day without cat poop like frog on hot stove. - I not know what dat mean either.'"

Irish Wolfhound:
"A mouthful of Cat poop
is a joy forever.
That is all ye know on earth,
And all ye need to know ... munch, munch"

30. Kitty Crunchies
my dogs will try given any chance to get at them. We are constantly cleaning out the box to prevent such snacks. It does gross us out, however dogs will be dogs. The dogs know when we yell "No kitty crunchies!!" when they get close to be box for inspection. They hunker and slink away, waiting for the time we are not paying attention to go rooting for them.

31. When we lived at the ex-house and Imhotep was an outdoor cat
he would occasionally deposit debris near the rethug nazi neighbor's side of the fence, where the neighbor's dog would snack on said debris. The neighbor complained to me once that his dog was eating my cat's poo. Everything I could do to not crack up in front of him. This dog was never allowed outside without being on a leash, so a person (I use the term loosely regarding my ex-neighbor) had to be near the dog when all this was going on. He could have taken the dog away at any time instead of watching in horror.

I'm convinced to this day Imhotep knew exactly what he was doing, because animals can sense evil. :) Now that he's an indoor cat, he uses the litter box, and even when he's allowed outside for quick supervised walks and dust baths, he never poos in the yard.

Cats' digestive systems are not very efficient, and therefore the stuff that comes out of the cat has almost as much nutritional value as the stuff that goes into the cat. It's just one of those things.

47. My vet said that many dogs do this.
He said that it is more apparent in older dogs and young cats. He said that sometimes when a family gets a new kitten the dog will eat their crap, just as a momma dog would clean up the crap from her new puppies. He said that, in some dogs, it's a type of nuturing instinct that kicks in. In others, it's just the fact that they will eat anything and cat poop tends to catch on quickly (I guess it tastes better than paper, the other thing my vet said it's very common to see some kinds of dogs eat).
