The "Wish my Daughter Good Wishes" Thread on her wedding this weekend!!
Getting married on Sunday, then going on a cruise for the honeymoon. They were supposed to get married late this year, but her soon to be hubby's deployment to Iraq got moved up, so they are getting married this weekend before he leaves.

I'm so happy and proud of her. She is marrying a good guy, and I think they'll have a wonderful life together. But damn, I feel old...

1. Weddings!
Edited on Tue Feb-07-06 04:47 PM by WritingIsMyReligion
I love weddings! Especially ones that are really nontraditional! I've only been to a few in my short life, but they're always very interesting...

;)

Best wishes to the soon-to-be newlyweds! I'm SO insatiably curious.... D'you mind giving a short description of what the service, etc. is supposed to be like?

:toast::toast:

WIMR

On Edit: Ooh, just caught the bit about the Iraqi deployment.... That REALLY stinks. x( x( x(

4. Sure...
Because they moved the date up due to the deployment, it's going to be on the cruise ship. We go there in the morning, they get married and have the reception on the boat. Then they kick us off before they depart for their honeymoon that afternoon.

It was the only place that had a church/chapel and reception hall available on the same day prior to him departing, and I was a bit skeptical at first, but it's grown on me and it actually sounds like it will be pretty cool.

3. Marriage is society's way of forcing us into our gender roles
Tell her to flee before it's too late!

Just kidding. Best of luck to her and to her special day.

12. Best wishes, but wouldn't you rather have cash?
Just remembering my daughter's wedding.
I was there mainly to sign the checks.
;-)
Coincidently, I wanted them to get married and have the reception on an excursion boat in San Diego harbor. She wanted the full church deal and reception at a swank hotel in La Jolla.
Guess who won?

All the best to your daughter and strongest karma to your future son-in-law.
Starting their marriage with his deployment to Iraq is a bummer.

I'll get miz t. to put the Cajun Catholic, Rosary Beads, St. Jude, Voo-Doo, Witchy Woman, Three-Fingered Super-Sign Blessing on him. Works damn near every time, but won't give us the lottery numbers.

But you can't use powers like that for personal gain.

Didn't you ever read the Super Hero Power rules? Same principle applies.

And I'm just writing the checks, too.

A LOT of freakin' checks...

17. "A LOT of freakin' checks"...tell me about it.
We made the trek to San Diego about a year before the big day to make all the arrangements. It's damn hard to put on a largish wedding long distance (from Alabama). Thought we had it all nailed down.

Arrived a week before to learn that the florist we thought we had hired had somehow dropped us from his schedule.
"Sorry."
Hired a last minute sub at twice the price.

Since the wedding was the Saturday after Thanksgiving, we also invited all of our friends from back east to come for Thanksgiving and catered that.
Mama mia.

I finally got to the point where I said (to myself) "F*ck it, it's only money, and if it makes her day, she's sure as hell worth it."
After that I was able to just relax and enjoy it.

If you have an open bar, make damned sure you get your share.
I did.
;-)
If you have the opportunity, DO lead a conga line.
My daughter and son-in-law's friends thought I was "way cool".

18. Wow, sonds like a lot of similarities..
We're travelling a long way, I'm to the relax and enjoy it point, so I guess all I need is my fair share at the bar.

Oh, that and the Conga line. Got it!!
