Worst made-up nickname in sports history

Usually sportswriters come up with these suckjobs. Real nicknames just sort of evolve.

My vote goes to Will "The Thrill" Clark. :puke:

SportsCenter was on a huge kick of making these up back around then.

3. Oh, gawd — Chris Berman

I think he's done more damage to sportscasting than any other single person. :puke:

4. He gagged on the name of our Mayor while at Brown

That's right, Mufi Hannemann played center for Harvard's basketball team. His full name is "Muliufi". Berman was then doing the PA for Brown. Berman couldn't handle "Muliufi". He finally gave up and went with "Basket by... Hannemann.". :rofl:

6. Anything starting with "The"

As in the catch, the drive, etc. How those bland and non-creative absurdities were ever proposed to begin with is remarkable, let alone accepted and heralded.

Now you've got Madden insisting Roethlisberger's play vs. Indy is "the tackle,' another beauty. What happened to interesting and unique nicknames, like the Gallophing Ghost, Four Horsemen, or Immaculate Reception? I can't wait for Tiger Woods to sink a 60 footer to win a major and it's suddenly "the putt."

7. Some sportswriter once dubbed a throw by Willie Mays

"The Throw." I think it was one he made in '65 to get Nellie Fox from deep center on a sac fly.

Thing is, Mays made throws like that about once a week.
