Poll question: Do you care if you're on someone's Ignore List?
Having only recently put someone on ignore after having been here nearly a year, I've been surprised to learn from other DUers that many of them have a lot of people on their ignore lists. Since then, I've been curious as to whether or not it bothers people if a fellow DUer has them on ignore, if they actually care or not. So, how about it, do you think you're on an ignore list and do you care if you are?

2. I used to have someone on my ignore list.
When we switched to the new software, I started fresh and I haven't put anyone on. But I'm pretty adept at seeing the DU I want to see anyway. It's a huge place. I don't have to look at everything. I look at the things that attract me and gloss over the rest.

I bet I'm on tons of ignore lists :D

I never put anyone on ignore and I never will, but it was close for awhile.. there was this guy that would answer a debating post with like.. "no youre WRONG" in the topic and thats that.. then when you asked him for arguments he'd say like.. "whatever" .. anyway he dissappeared after awhile he probably got banned

14. LOL!
As you probably remember, I almost put you on ignore last week, but then thought better of it. You are always totally honest with your feelings, so we always know at least you're not bullshitting anyone. We may not always exactly like everything you have to say, but at least you're honest about it!

4. how do you undo ignore?
LH, I was reading a post of yours recently that I really liked and I wanted to email you personally and hit that zzz button accidentally. Only then did I learn it meant ignore but didn't think much of it until your thread tonight.

So sorry. I don't want (and haven't had need to ignore anyone. I would like to undo it. Any advice?

Sorry, couldn't resist it, lol! What you do is, you go into your options and click on your Ignore list. Then, you just uncheck the name of the person you want to take off the list.

21. hey, I'm not that computer savvy
Edited on Sat Nov-29-03 09:04 PM by Carolina
and I was curious about those damn little icons next to all our screen names. I started with the last one because the zzz sounded interesting (hey I thought it meant something about sleep). When ignore popped up, I thought oh, shit, if I email LH now, I won't be able to receive her response. So, I called it a night and let the whole thing slip... until now.

Honest, I meant no harm which is why I usually shy away from exploring the unknown buttons on computers. Geez, I still like my old color coded VCR (the stop button is red, the play button is green ...) Needless to say, computerized voting scares the shit of me. Can't we just write the name on a slip of paper ... just kidding.

My college age son helps me out with computer wizardry when he's home, but you guessed it... he's away.

Anyway, LH, on a side note I was curious about how things went with your meeting with those boneheads at your son's school following the flap about your/his participation in the Oct 25th protest?

Honest

I don't think I am on anybodys' ignore list
because I'm good natured and happy
and never disagree with anybody except
the few thousand I have on ignore because
they upset me by being against my candidate,

23. I've been known to put a couple of folks on ignore
One of whom was inflammatory in every post (and tombstoned in under a week) and I just didn't want to tempt myself to tell him/her what was what at the expense of my ability to post and interact here.

Another of whom simply could not manage to post without saying something annoying, condescending or rude.

A single difficult interaction or struggle is not enough to send someone to the ignore list. And once a person is on, they'll eventually be pulled out of the 'Bozo Bin' now and again to see if I can read them without a significant rise to my blood pressure.

As to whether I'm on someone's ignore list and how I feel about it; it very much depends. If I've done or said something to piss someone off or for general purposes, just like NSMA said, their opinion of me is none of my business. But if it's someone who's opinions I value and admire, I'd be lying if I said I just don't care.

24. I voted no it wouldn't bother me
As far as using Ignore myself, I've always been able to just skip over threads or posts started by people who I discovered I didn't have much use for.

The one exception for Ignore I used was several months ago for a nutball poster that was banned after about a month or so to prevent her from PM'ing me after I asked her several times to leave me the fuck alone.

25. I'd kind of feel bad.
No one is in my 'ignore' list, though I have been thinking of putting some people on 'ignore' to save them from my testy responses. Certain things push my buttons--rudeness, coldness or apathy towards a poster who is pouring their heart out or being honest, and getting overly vicious on my candidate. Silly, but hell, I'm not as highly evolved as some.

30. That does seem to be used as a
"weapon" sometimes, some people like to threaten that they'll put so-and-so on ignore if they "keep it up", or something like that. I think most people are able to see right through that kind of bluster.

36. I think someone who is no longer here had me on ignore
or else she just ignored me. It was kind of funny. Other than that I would be surprised, I don't post that much.

This thread did give me the final kick to put about 6 people on ignore, there are a few here that seem to just eek by the civility rules and I've decided that if they can't make their case convincingly without all the rudeness, they aren't worth listening to. It will help my blood pressure immensely:D

And I suspect a similar number have me on theirs.
I have about the same standards on the net as I do for my house -- there are a limited number of less-than-desirable personalities I'd just as soon not have over. Disagreeable types, mostly. I choose to not waste my life energy on them.
John
There are also a few people who've been snotty and boorish about their particular candidate for the Dem nomination. I am now just DXing their opinions until after the Michigan primary. Nothing personal -- I just don't want to hear all the bullshit just now.
