4. Gotta go with Firefly
I think Joss Whedon is a pretentious ass, but I loved the series, and the movie. I hope Sci-Fi picks it up and more people take the time to rent or buy the DVD's of this series and give em a gander.

Second place is Battlestar Galactica based on the new series kicking so much ass and taking names.

The bronze medal is a tougher one. I might have to go with Star Trek simply because TOS and TNG were automatic watching back in the day. I bet more people never missed an episode of TNG than Babylon 5.

Honorable Mention to Stargate SG-1. The first five seasons were great, if little watched because they were on Showtime.

6. Babylon 5 rocks!
I had the biggest crush on Bruce Boxleitner when I was in middle school and he was on How The West Was Won. Fancy him showing up 25 years later on this great Sci-Fi show. I must say he has aged very well.

I loved the political subplots on B5, although the Shadow War was the best part. The war with the totalitarian regime on Earth seemed too much like reality!

8. A couple from the selection
The original Outer Limits. Being an anthology, you can expect some dogs. But there were some good stories. And if the story is told well enough, then primitive special effects are moot.

I'm not a big sci-fi fan, but I am enjoying Firefly on DVD. The lack of rubber masked aliens attracted me. Just had to adjust to the western motif in space. Alas, Friday night I'll be watching the final episode. But there's Serenity waiting in the wings.

9. I'll go with Bab5
But you missed the best - Doctor Who.

And Blake's 7? Tanith Lee wrote some great scripts And Boucher and Holmes. I doubt we can go back to that - a dhild molester as a hero? (He did ot do it !)

Best of all is Sapphire and Steel - are they the good guys or the bad guys.? There is no real resolution - you have to make your own choiceas as to what they did was moral or not.. Interesting,...whiile fandom is mostly geeky teenage males, tihs show's fan base is mostly midddle =aged women

Khash.

19. CURSE YOU AND THIS POLL!!!! (went with B5)

Have all my favorites up there, currently a big Stargate SG-1 and Battlestar Galactica nut. But I have to go with Babylon 5, JMS had an awesome story arc and for the most part stuck with it. Plus the CGI for the time being on a TV show was awesome.

20. Any votes for Blake's 7?
I love old-school Star Trek.

But just about every permutation of it went noticeably south at one point. The Original Series was hit-and-miss during Season 3 (part of why they cancelled it, though it was a Catch-22, if you know the story).

The Next Generation, ironically, became better as it went along, even though many characters were composites of TOS characters (Data, Riker, etc). It aged well, like a fine wine.

DS9 and Voyager started out somewhat promising, but DS9 went south after a couple of seasons, and Voyager started to suffer right at the first episode (they could have written them into the Delta Quadrant and at least HAD IT MAKE SENSE).

Enterprise.....sucks. Though I hear that, too, improved during the last season. Didn't bother to watch it after the 5th episode, though.

But Rick Berman perhaps single-handedly killed Star Trek.

28. B7 fan here! More a mix of Star Trek and Star Wars...
being rather more daring than the pair of them combined, and more...

Of course, some of it hasn't aged well... but compared to ANYTHING of the time, B7 is infinitely better.

I also felt Star Trek TOS has aged better than TNG. The latter is flashy soap opera; the former has complex charcters and plots.

22. B5 - but...

If the new BS Galactica was in a category by itself, I would have voted for that. The original series cancels out all of the new series goodness however.

24. Where's the option for Battlestar Galactica (new)?
because the old one sucks monkey nuts. Seeing the new one makes it suck them even harder. While the monkey might enjoy this, I certainly do not.

25. Doctor Who or Blake's 7... Gotta say WHO; more flexible format...
Doctor Who: 1963-1989, BBC.

(the new series is not a direct continuation; more of a 'reboot'.)

31. BSG (new, not old) and Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex
I'm increasingly of the opinion that those are two of the best sci-fi shows ever to hit TV.
