2. Trying to figure out what to write about Bach in one page.
So far I'm thinking:

1. Every other person in his life story is named Johann something-or-other. The second most popular name of the time period seems to be Christoph-something-or-other. He had three--THREE!--relatives named Johann Christoph Bach.

2. He married his second cousin.

3. He didn't seem to give a shit about his female children. He didn't provide them with an education. Only one married and the others languished in poverty.

4. He was moody, obnoxious and a major suck-up to whichever royal seemed to be on the way up. The idea that he wrote music "for the glory of God" seems to be at odds with his life story. He wrote music to flatter royals and get better-paying positions.

5. He was a fucking musical genius who was somewhat famous in his time, but probably not as famous as he should have been. If he was really that obnoxious, his genius probably made him difficult company. :)

6. He wrote approximately one cantata a week for five years, but other musicians of the time actually outproduced him. Some other guy (probably named Johann something-or-other) wrote one cantata per week for twelve years, but I'm guessing the cantatas weren't as great as Bach's.

7. Most of his kids died before they were five...probably a sign of the times.

8. He spent a month in jail because he pissed off one of the Dukes of Hazzard..er, um, Weimar.

9. Musicians at the time existed/composed at the behest of some kind of royalty.

10. P.D.Q. Bach is NOT the 21st odd son of J.S. Bach and it's impossible to die before you're born, BTW. :)
