Today's Trivia Question: Top 5 selling albums of all time
No fair googling

What are the top five selling albums of all time. My assumption is the number is for all versions sold of said album (ie - Vinyl, 8-track, cassette, CD)

Good Luck!

1. I'm thinking Eagles Greatest Hits, Thriller, Tapestry
Edited on Wed Feb-01-06 04:21 PM by progmom
...dunno after that.

damn - Tapestry was the best-selling album before Thriller knocked it off...but looks like it has taken a mighty tumble. Even HOOTIE has outsold it. :(

18. Dark Side of the Moon?
I know that was the album with the longest tenure on the Billboard charts, over ten years.

I have a sneaking suspicion Abba Gold was the other greatest hits collection.

I have two of them, numbers 3 and 4. I wouldn't wipe my ass with Numbers 1 and 2 and am ambivalent about #5.

Based on Wikipedia top 100 selling US Albums.

Edited on Wed Feb-01-06 05:08 PM by LynneSin
I'm heading home - here's the list

#1: Eagles Greatest Hits 1971-77 (28million)
#2: Thriller - Michael Jackson (27million)
#3: The Wall - Pink Floyd (23million)
#4: IV (or also known as Zoso) - Led Zeppelin (22million)
#5: Billy Joel's Greatest Hits Vol #1 & #2 (21million)

BTW, I found a different site that has AC/DC's Back in Black moving out of the tie of #6 and possibly surpassing the Billy Joel album

40. Dark Side of the Moon? Thriller?
I dunno how many recent albums could compete in this increasingly fragmented market. I know Dark Side set some record by staying in the top 200 for more than 10 years, and you still see it stocked just about everywhere. Thriller probably hasn't sold much in recent years, but at one point it was the biggest album of all time.
