Incredibly Ignorant Computer Question...

Bear with me--I'm the ultimate computer klutz...:-(... OK: I have a five-year old iMac, and am hooked up to AOHell, where I'm going to be for the foreseeable future. I cannot even get onto most of AOL's sites, and a lot of non-AOL ones, because my browser doesn't let me on anymore... I tried to upgrade it, but I haven't succeeded--I said I was a klutz...it's like Catch-22...I try to download an upgrade--an OS IX--and they tell me that I need an upgraded browser to download it, WTF... Is there something really simple I'm doing wrong, and if so, can anyone help me figure out what it is? Do I need to get a disc or something? Will I need to do this in order to stay with DU when it upgrades--that's one of the places I *can* still get to...:-)...but for how long...:-(... Any suggestions would be appreciated...

but why are you stuck with AOL for the foreseeable future?
I'm not saying that AOL is the source of your troubles in this case but somehow it wouldn't surprise me.

what browser are you using?

what does it say when you try to go to a site it doesn't like?
