1. it is already
I hope it will survive the movie (according to rumors with Leo DiCaprio, directed by Scorsese).

2. Dan Simmons is a terrific writer.
I've read everything he has put out. Seriously a movie?

3. Yes
Nothing really official yet, but it seems that Simmons himself will write the script.

4. Read his new book "Ilium"
It's a new two book series that revolves around a future "remake" of the Trojan war by aliens or post-humans.

5. i agree, it already IS a classic!
read that years ago. (there's at least one sequel too but I can't find the name in my over-caffeinated brain right now)

Simmons is one of the GREATs. (his horror is fantastic too!)

7. I once started "Summer of Night" but couldn't get into it.
Read Hyperion so I went back to Summer and was so glad I did.

6. yep the Hyperion series is one of the best....
The last book, The Rise of Endymion, is one of the best SF novels of all time, IMO. The ending is so superb that it still gives me goose bumps when I think about it. Re-reading the whole series for the third time is on my xmas break to-do list.
