Good Sunday Morning, Everybody!
:donut::hi:
Welcome to a late edition of the Early Morning Crew! I hope you've had a great weekend so far! I had a lazy day yesterday so I had a chance to recoup and relax...and since I don't get many weekends off, that was EXACTLY my plan. It's going to be a rainy day here in Tallahassee today, so I think what I'll do is get all my house cleaning done...and boy does it NEED it!

Glad you offered yourself a lazy day yesterday.

We just survived over 27 inches of snow in 1 (one!) day ... :hi:

26. Heidi's just out in the
remaining snow to take a few pictures of our neighbor's pool. The whole cover broke in, ruining the pool liner. That's the third time the liner has to be replaced since they first built it two years ago. I wasn't surprised, because this pool has some bad bad karma since the beginning. Long story ...

30. Well, to begin with,
he started building it in a summer where the town almost had no water left, and the first thing they hit (they hit it the next day again) was the main water pipe. So we had a funny fountain next to our patio. Oh, and the construction workers killed Heidi's berry bushes. And since then, they only had problems with the whole thing.

Like wehn they first filled it, they got a watertruck to do it. But these same trucks even empty out oil tanks, so there was some oil still in which ruined the liner. Then the new liner leaked, etc. etc. I think they spent so much money for repairing the damn thing they could've afforded a second pool somewhere.

33. Good gods.
What a MESS! Why didn't the trucking company who dumped water and oil into the pool have to pay to have it repaired? They're the ones who ruined the liner. I would have screamed bloody murder until they DID pay for it.

After all the problems...I think I would have just given up. What's next? Somebody drowns in the damned thing?

But, Heidi just got back from shooting some photos for the neighbor's insurance company, since the neighbors live near Zurich and this is their "holiday residence." What a mess:

The blue thing is the liner.

57. That's now the third time,
and I'm afraid they won't change anything at all. Just having the next liner installed. The whole concept is ridiculous. The liner is approx 1 mm thick. You can scratch through it easily, and it's only hold to the walls by the water pressure.

It's an older couple who perhaps is here for two weeks out of the whole year, and only he swims a little. Sometimes, their son with his family stay over the weekend, but that's it mostly. The fun thing is the light they have installed on top of the surrounding wall. If they're here and have the lights on, it looks like an airstrip. I'm really surprised that there was no little sports plane yet that tried to land here. :eyes:

28. No worries.
Nobody will drive around today anyway. And the Kois are doing as fine as they can (they're still in winter stasis). There's a part of the water open again, and the ice over it prevented the snow from falling in. The only sad thing is that I saw that there's a dead frog within the ice. They chose the pond for their winter quarter, but it just doesn't work. :( And they hide so good I always miss one.

56. How fun is that?!
Building a pool can be pain in the rear. When they build ours, they got all the rebar in and were ready to do the concrete when we got a heavy rain storm. Dirt poured in, the rebar ended up below the dirt and they had to go in and dig it all out again by hand. Then they had to do the compaction around the house all over again and it failed inspection before they got it right. But we were lucky -- it was all completed within 3 months. We have enjoyed the pool, but I'll never have another one.

59. Sounds bad,
but at least it's a concrete pool you probably won't have any problems anymore with it. This one has a thin plastic liner the water pressure holds together. Just don't drop any sharp objects in it ...

I was growing up with a big pool in the garden, and the only problems I remember was that we had to paint it new every spring. This and the whole pump system somethimes got glogged up. But otherwise I could swim when I was three years old. ;)

60. My parents had one of those.
In New Jersey. I always hated it. It's cheaper to do a pool like that than concrete, and they don't have to be drained completely in the winter. My parents had these huge inflatable pillows that floated on the top of the half-filled pool in the winter.

We have something called pebble-tek in our pool. It looks like little pea gravel that's stuck into the concrete. Never needs to be painted, but it tends to get yellow. We had it cleaned once, which requires draining the pool, but it didn't stay clean for very long. Not worth the hassle. harleydad goes out and backwashes the filter regularly to keep it unclogged. Otherwise, it's pretty maintenance-free. But now that the kids are gone, no one uses it.

That's good you could swim at three!

65. The whole concept escapes me, seems such a hassle.
And this one wasn't cheaper at all since they had the whole ground lifted for it, build a natural stone wall around it (which we mainly see) and had huge landscaping done. Perhaps this was too much, so the pool had to be somewhat cheap, but even for it, they had build a concrete hole in the ground. I just didn't get it.

Oh, and that was the first day of construction, when the town almost had no water. In the middle you'll see the broken waterpipe. The fountain went on for half an hour, and the next day one of the construction workers hit the pipe at the same exact spot again. We just could hear someone screaming "Noooooo!", and then there was the fountain again. We couldn't believe it.

Then we'll know how much money we have to play with. The minute we get a contract, we'll line up a rental house in TN, call movers, etc. We can rent until the new house is completed. The builder wants us living up there while he builds anyway. And we need the proceeds from this house to pay the builder with. So, if it sells tomorrow, I would be VERY happy!

29. Yep, plans are ready.
Builder is lined up. Right now we're waiting for a survey of the property. They've moved the closing date up to Feb. 10 (from the 17th), so it's a mad rush. The builder can't start until May, but he wants us to have a gravel road put in before he gets going so his trucks don't make a muddy mess. Then he'll have a nicely compacted bed for the driveway when everything's all done. It's all very exciting, but stressful.

Have you noticed how FAST your good morning threads grow? Wow! You sure get everyone going in the morning!

34. The very first part is deciding on the plans.
Easy for one person, almost impossible for two. harleydad and I were looking at completely different houses! But then I found this passive solar one with a loft and we both fell in love with it. We'll have a basement with a HUGE train room for him, so he's really happy about that. There's even a screened porch for the kitties. Whenever I start to get stressed, I look at the pictures of the land and imagine being out there in the clean air. :)

36. Good morning.
You lazy sod, it must have been nearly half past eight when you posted this thread. :P

Sorry that it's raining, we've got a beautiful sunny yet cold day here. It's quite gorgeous in fact.

I'm enjoying 'Mozart Day' on the E.B.U. - I think that they're broadcasting from Germany at the moment.

:hi:

39. Hail, TJ!
Good to see you this morning! Yes, it was late...but with the weekend off, I needed some recoup time in bed. I'm glad to hear you have a sunny day going there in England! Right now, I'm listening to SKY.FM on Shoutcast Radio. I like to listen to internet radio sometimes, and there are many Top 40 stations to listen to! What's even better about them...no commercials! :bounce:

45. That's one of the delights of the B.B.C.
As it's funded by the television licence fee - no adverts :D (well except for other programmes).

Also it has the financial clout to produce good quality classical music (I think that it has about 5 full-time orchestras, and at least 2 choirs).

52. Wow!
I think there are several stations from England on ShoutCast also. I'll have to look into that.

49. Afternoon Billy.
Looks like we're taking shifts on our nation's capital. I was there yesterday, and will be back there tomorrow.

Do you have a decent rail-link in?

:hi:
