It's an eastern Mediterranean feast!
I'm having friends over. I'm serving them:

  • A roast chicken
  • tzatziki
  • hummus bi tahini
  • baba ghanouj
  • tabbouleh
  • feta cubes and black olives
  • pita bread
  • for dessert, baklava and galaktoboureko.

Who wants the leftovers??

1. Oh my goodness!
I need to be your friend. Seriously.

I make a good hummus (regular and roasted red pepper), but that is a feast!

3. Let me know when you're in Chicago
and I'll cook for ya.

Dessert comes from the Pan-Hellenic Bakery on Halsted Street. I had enough to do and wasn't going to spring my first attempt at Greek desserts on friends--although I'd seen my mother do it.

Incidentally, I'm way far from Greek. I just happen to like the food.

5. I didn't start eating the cuisine until I was an adult.
My parents aren't Greek, although we all love the food.

I always get my Greek/Mediterranean pastries from Phoenicia, a local middle eastern grocery/bakery/deli. I suck at baking and pastries.

9. I'll join the queue for leftovers.
We live on hummus, baba, and tabbouleh in the summer but our winter Meditterean tends more toward spanokopita, tiropetakia, and other heavier fare.

19. I would, but I'm headed for the kitchen....
Damn, that must have been good dinner. Some day, we'll have a Tzaziki Battle (I do make a good one). I won't mind if you win, because if you do, I'll have had some damn good tzaziki.

Hope all is going better for you than it's been. I gotta go now. Work in the morning.

21. Another phyllo pastry
The filling is a lemon-flavored semolina custard and the whole drenched in syrup like baklava. It is one of my favorites of all time.
