1. Didn't the brontosaurus stampede look really fake, though?
I still really liked the movie.

One other quibble: Jack Black was miscast.

2. Yeah, they should have made more people get hurt
and the dinosaurs were a little clumsy and stupid.

Was there growth hormone in the water there or something re the really big bugs. Creepiest human beings I've ever seen.

Not sure what you mean about Jack Black.

A very ambitious movie and I didn't get bored for a second. Usually I am wary of 3 hour movies but this one was never a dull moment.

3. Ever see the original?
I have, fairly recently, and in a theater. It holds up surprisingly well. Even my 13-year-old son liked it. We haven't seen the new one yet, but I want to.

15. Love it, but you can tell Peter Jackson loves it, too. He's very
respectful of the original. The dialogue makes several references to it. Denham is running down a list of actresses to hire he asks about "Fay" and is reminded that she's on location making picture for "Merian." They use bits of Max Steiner's original score throughout, especially at the NYC premier.

8. I saw the original when I was a kid
but I hardly remember it. The special effects are so good today that I'm sure this one is better.

10. How was the original racist?
I was too young when I saw it to make that judgment.
I didn't think this one was racist.

12. I think it was.
Less blatantly so, but there were certainly racist themes.

16. Compared to every day life in 1932, the original was pretty

mild when it came to racial remarks and representations. You gotta put things in perspective.

13. Did you wonder, like me

how King Kong was able to hide his organ throughout the entire movie. Maybe he went for the human because he felt inadequate around the other giant gorillas. Then again, maybe King Kong is a woman, which puts a whole new spin on the story.

18. Look, the movie is made for a general audience
Edited on Thu Jan-26-06 05:17 PM by undeterred
There are no genetalia on any of the dinosaurs either. The leading female is in a negligee or an evening gown for the entire 3 hours, but we barely see the outline of a nipple- her sexuality is downplayed and her contact with the leading male is limited to a couple of kisses.

We assume that Kong is male, but it occurred to me during the movie that nobody really knows that for sure.

There is a black character in the cast, who we are led to think well of, and at one point Kong picks him up.

Edit: "When he first sees her, the “Native Chief” offers six of his wives for Ann, and when this is refused, he kidnaps her." The natives on Skull Island are incredibly non-communicative and scary and no such trade is proposed- as far as I could interpret the movie.
