True story: Sent this out as a Christmas card last year, with the notation "We've been put into the witness protection program - Greeting from our new Undisclosed Location". I ran into one of the recipients in the airport, and she asked me "So where were you? My husband and I couldn't figure it out."

As for the Canyon -- a great trip! Been there twice -- stayed once at the rim, once at a Holiday Inn Express in Tusayan, the little town just outside the canyon. Both are good options, but if you're thinking of staying at the rim this summer . reserve NOW. We stayed at the Kachina Lodge (one of the less-expensive canyon-side hotels), and then walked a hundred yards to the pricey El Tovar and had drinks and snacks and watched the sun set over the canyon. Arizona is a great place for a vacation, but summer heat can be tough!

I still haven't done much research on it, frankly...

The photo's from 2001, when I was one of the safety/security personnel at the consecration of the Great Stupa of Dharmakaya at Shambhala Mountain Center in Colorado (mostly escorting amiable Tibetan lamas who didn't speak English to the right seat and picking up people who fainted from dehydration at 8500 feet). We wore British-style khaki uniforms to make ourselves recognizable, thus the gorblimey cap. The cap badge, by the way, says "Victory Over War".
