No foul play suspected in the death of Sean Penn's brother

Updated: 10:23 p.m. ET Jan. 24, 2006
LOS ANGELES - Actor Chris Penn has died in a Santa Monica residence, with no signs of foul play, a local ABC television affiliate reported Tuesday.

Penn, 43, was the brother of actor Sean Penn and starred in dozens of films.

He played baby-faced criminal Nice Guy Eddie Cabot in director Quentin Tarantino’s “Reservoir Dogs” and starred along with his brother in the 1986 film “At Close Range.” He also played Willard Hewitt in “Footloose” in 1984.

1. Oh, I'm sorry to hear that.
My condolences to the Penn family; comforting and healing energy headed their way!

To lose a son at a relatively young age must be heartbreaking.

I hope and pray that the death was not related to drug abuse.

10. Pat Robertson probably thinks God is punishing Sean.
I can almost see the self-satisfied smile of Satan on his face.

RIP, Chris. Too sad, too soon, too young to die.

13. A bunch of people died today, all over the world.
Just because this dude was in show business doesn't make him special or any different. I didn't know him. Big woop. It happens (to everyone).

16. You're right, he's not "special" or "different".
But it makes it a story of public interest.

If you're not interested in the story, you're free to move along. I didn't make you click on this thread.

23. You'll die too one day
Hope people are kinder to you.

Was there really any need for you to chime in on this thread with such rancid harshness? Do you really believe that the people of DU are not aware of how many innocent people die in this world every day? What is the purpose of hitting every thread like this and lecturing people like you were their minister?

You know what? I do think that because Chris Penn was an actor and in show business did make him more special and different. I'm an actor, therefore, I identify with him. Just because you don't, really doesn't give you the moral authority to come into this thread and piss all over it. You don't have to agree, but is it really necessary to treat threads like this like a call to arms?

21. He's gotten VERY heavy in recent years
So I wouldn't be surprised if it was related to that. Either way- a very huge loss, and his new movie opens today at Sundance :(

24. He played a jock version of Spiolli's in Wild Life.
No one seems to remember that movie any more. Ah well, not his best work but I enjoyed him. Nice Guy Eddie was a GREAT character.
