I tend to root for the older established teams, and those teams are for the most part in the NFC. Same goes for baseball or basketball, or even hockey. I'd much rather get behind the Cubs, or the Celtics, or the Canadians than root for the Diamondbacks, Raptors or Predators.

But didn't the Seahawks used to be in the AFC? And aren't the Steelers one of the oldest franchises in the NFL? I'll never understand how they ended up in the AFC.

What to do?

The AFC fans have let their recent winning streak go to their collective heads.

:D

this year - they have discarded Seattle.

3. Same Boat
I really like the Steelers personalities. I dig Big Ben, and Ward, and Troy, and the Bus. I just like them. But, i'm supposed to root for the NFC, 'cuz my Bears live there. And, i like both cities and their people. Maybe it will end in a tie when all the lights go out in overtime!

9. Seattle began in the NFC

1976 same years as the Buccaneers. They switched over to the AFC in 1980 or 81. Something like that. They switched back to the NFC two years ago when the Texans came into the league.

http://www.nflhistoryguide.com/

Pittsburgh, Baltimore, and Cleveland switched over to the AFC from the former NFL (NFC) in 1970 or there abouts.

I just happened to be reading up on this in the Almanac this weekend but I guess all the numbers didn't stick in my brain.

The THREE original franchises (oldest) still in the NFL were part of the American Professional Football Association which basically formulated the rules for pro football. In 1930 the Green Bay Packers, the Chicago Bears, and ....the Chicago Cardinals were formed-it might have been 1931.

The Rooney's bought the Steelers franchise for $2,500 back in the 30's.

I don't really have any interest in the SB. I just thought is was odd that both teams in it had switched conferences at one time or another.

29. Tough call! I once drove pretty close to PA
(Along some toll road between DC and New York, I think), and I've never been west of Vegas, so Pittsburgh is practically home for me, in comparison.

But Shawn Alexander is from Alabama... Tough call. Give me a southerner who plays for Pittsburgh. A good one, not some bench anchor.

34. That's a start. Still, I'm from Mississippi so Alabama has a stronger pull
than Georgia.

I want to cheer for Pittsburgh, I really do. But I like Alexander! Plus, if Seattle wins, the Dallas will still be alone (except for the 49ers, who cheated) with five SB wins!

Tough call. I'll work on it some more.

22. I'm so torn
On one hand, I grew up in WA, and while the Colts got stomped at least I have WA to fall back on.

On the other hand, when the Colts lost, my mom's ex b/f called me and harrassed me (all in good fun) and I'd like to see him cry in his beer over a Seahawks loss.

25. Yes, Pittsburgh, along with Cleveland and Baltimore,
were moved to the newly formed AFC in 1970 to even out the number of teams in each conference. When the NFL realigned in 2002, Seattle moved from the AFC to the NFC to even out the number of teams in each conference.

By default, you should root for the Steelers because they are originally an NFL/NFC team. :)
